Protective mask, leather and chain mail, 1917-18. Science Museum.

Masks like this one were worn by British crews in tanks during the First World War. The leather mask is shaped to fit around the eyes and nose and the chain mail was used to protect against splinters from explosions as the tank came under fire. Life inside these primitive vehicles would have been extremely uncomfortable as well as dangerous.

Today’s “Odd Tank” is the 🇺🇸 American ‘PAV1 Badger’

Built in the 2000’s by Howe and Howe Technologies, this tiny tank (and it actually is classed as a tank) is designed to be used by police to enter fortified buildings and even fit through standard doorways.
The badger can be armed with various weapons with a romote control weapon station (picture shows a Barret .50 caliber rifle)
The frontal armor on the Badger is strong enough to deflect heavy machinegun fire.

The vehicle is powered by an unspecified 25hp engine.

The Badger holds the record for being the smallest All-Terrain Armored Vehicle according to the Guinness Book of World Records.
