@jeremycorbyn@WShak1 I recommend this substack https://t.co/bhe6obhulw for a really good analysis of the Belfast riots. TL;DR The left is just as bad as the right - people feel completely let down by the elites. That is why they are rioting, not because of Farage.
@kamilkazani Also, it is sensible not to celebrate painful victories. After the battle, Wellington wrote something along the lines of 'only a battle lost can be close to as sad as a battle won'. I doubt that Napoleon would have felt that way, if he had won. They were very different men.
@vicderbyshire It could be both. Farage's reward for campaigning for Brexit could be personal protection against the consequent death threats. Journalists and commentators have a responsibility to see all sides. I wish more people did - especially in these polarised times. @WShak1
@isnit0 Genuine question - does this allow for inflation? A £10 contribution when I was a young donor to NI must be worth multiples of that now. @peter_sarris
@fizakkhann An utterly horrible story @WShak1 to go with others from both sides of this conflict. Let us pray and work for ther abolition of such evil everywhere.
@gmhales I worked in a research lab in the US for a bit. We had safety briefings before public holidays and at one, the local police chief asked how many of us assembled scientists were carrying handguns. I expected 'none'. In fact more than half were. Extraordinary.

@WShak1@DonaldPond6@101lestat Legality is different to morality, and, sadly, there are no fully accepted codes for either. Sensible people can have different but strong views. The proof of the Venezuela pudding will be what happens now - which may be the usual human mess. Let's hope it is better.
@colour_history@NigelBiggar Magee was the excellent young man who wrote the lovely poem 'High Flight'. He also wrote a sonnet about Rupert Brooke's burial while at Rugby. He was killed in a mid air collision, I believe.
@freddiesayers Sweden did well from its relaxed approach because its social structures were different to those of the UK. There were, for example, an awful lot more single ocupant homes (meaning much less domestic virus transmission). It is important to compare apples with apples.
@giles_fraser You are a Christian priest and I am a Christian doctor. We have probably both seen people whose lives have been made irretrievably ghastly by your God (and mine). I cannot see how a Christian God would forbid a kind ending or would disagree with Chris Whitty's views.
@PaulRRobichaud If two entangled particles remain co-located in a dimension different to those of our 'ordinary' universe, then information can pass intstantaneously between them in that domension while seeming to break the rules in our 'ordinary' universe. 2/2
