Has anyone else noticed how frustrating the @NWLRonline search engine can be?
Finding relevant authorities often requires multiple search prompts, and even locating a case you already know can be uphill.
It could be optimised for a more seamless and efficient user experience.
@_fefas Academia is easier. It doesn't require much skills or multi-tasking. Just lecture, do research, and meet the requirements. SAN? Get clients, go to court, and spend years litigating. The SC part is the worst. CJ, you need some connection nowadays.
@sen_adekunle But why do some judges do that? I have once seen a case where the trial judge resolved all the issues against the plaintiff and yet went ahead to grant some of the reliefs sought. Judges Dey confused learned counsel anyhow
@SarkinMota_AMF You canโt have damages in criminal defamation. Infact, you will only be a complainant and the police will do the rest which means you have little or no control over how the case is prosecuted. In addition, no damages will be awarded to you. Damages are awarded in civil action.
@ifemi_LLB I attended Osamoluโs revision class on Corporate Practice a week immediately preceding the Bar finals. I listened and left but half of the Bar finals questions in Corporate Practice were on that revision class. It was my saving grace.
If you are a Nigerian law student or young lawyer and you have not yet properly studied INAKOJU V ADELEKE, youโre missing one of the most practical judicial tutorials ever delivered by our courts.
The case did not just deal with impeachment. It is a foundational tutorial on civil litigation, brilliantly explained by Prof. Niki Tobi JSC in classroom style.
What makes the case indispensable? It answers (authoritatively and practically) the questions you will face in exams, courtrooms, and legal practice:
- When is Originating Summons appropriate, and when will it backfire?
- What exactly is a demurrer, and how should counsel respond?
- How do you properly raise a preliminary objection without sabotaging your case?
- If a court lacks jurisdiction, should it strike out or dismiss the case; and why does it matter?
- What is an ouster clause, and when will courts refuse to be bound by it?
- How do you distinguish errors of law vs errors of fact for appellate purposes?
- When can the Court of Appeal step in and resolve the real issues in controversy?
- What conduct actually meets the threshold for impeachment of a Governor?
- What is the correct constitutional procedure for impeachment?
- How does separation of powers function in Nigerian state governments - not just in theory?
- How are checks and balances enforced in practice?
- What are the constitutional limits and duties of legislators?
- Where can a House of Assembly validly sit and make decisions?
This is a decision you should read every year.
@Etaba_agbor It is the more reason why the NBA should give level playing ground to every candidate to contest, campaign and canvass for supports and votes so that at the end of the day, the voice of the bar men that speak in unison will emerge and prevail.
@Etaba_agbor A man capable of obtaining such a grotesque order to enable only himself run for the office lacks every ounce of credibility to lead the bar. The true legitimacy of a leader lies in not only getting to office through legality but also overwhelming support of the majority.
