Tom Crean sailed a life boat with 5 other men across the most hostile sea in the world, and then trekked 3 days over frozen mountains with nothing but a pickaxe, a rope, and shoes retrofitted w/ nails.

@njalbertini Ha, some truth to that. Everyone brags about their 50 year old GE toaster still going strong.
75-80 years is pushing it on those big power subs.
The replacements will take 2-4+ years to manufacture (if you order today), and probably last half as long.
Had a long chat with a T&D engineer at a massive utility. Half of their power transformers are 50+ years old. Some are pushing 75 years. Barely any backups.
Adding new capacity is one thing, replacing the old is a whole 'nother animal.

@RihardJarc Spoke with an OpenAI director in similar boat. Engineered equipment will be one of the biggest bottlenecks not just for AI, but for the country.
China has officially closed all exports for lithium ion materials, equipment, and high energy density batteries with >300 Wh/kg. If you buy drone batteries (2170 or pouch) reach out. Your supply chain may have just evaporated.
“So you off shored all your supply chains because McKinsey told you to?”
“Right”
“Then you let lawyers and activists slow down deployment of factories, mining, and power plants? Making what should take 3-6 months take 3-6 years?”
“Exactly”
“And now you’re complaining we don’t have enough industrial capacity?”
“Yes”
