With the opening of the Vancouver Police Academy at Abbott and W. Hastings this month, long-time Vancouver resident Cindy Lee speaks about how she feels the community will be impacted.

Living in Gastown for the last nine years, Cindy is looking forward to the recruits becoming part of the community, and seeing them in local coffee shops and neighbourhood restaurants.

With the Academy located in the heart of one of Vancouver’s most challenging areas for crime, she believes the recruits will have a unique opportunity to see the realities facing residents and businesses firsthand.

It’s an opportunity for future officers to build connections and understand the community they serve.
