To Mr. Zemedeneh Negatu @Zemedeneh, Your interview on Gazette Plus is deeply misleading and compelled me to respond.
I normally don’t respond to armchair theorists, but I thought you were better informed than that.

Indeed, You are free to please a narrative.
I am equally free to challenge misinformation.
With all due respect, claiming that 🇩🇯’s #ports are « expensive and inefficient » is not serious economics, it is simply a convenient talking point detached from facts.
After Ethiopia lost direct access to the sea, Djibouti did not merely provide an alternative.
Djibouti built the entire logistics backbone that enabled #Ethiopia’s #economic #transformation.
More importantly, how can anyone credibly argue that Djibouti’s port investments are « insufficient »or « inappropriate »when over $10 billion has been invested in world-class infrastructure, including:
• Deep-sea ports
• Specialized terminals
• An electrified railway
• Integrated logistics corridors
This is not inefficiency.
This is strategic infrastructures built at scale and serving not only Ethiopia, but global trade and regional integration.
Let me be absolutely clear:

Without Djibouti, Ethiopia’s transformation at this scale would not have been possible.
Djibouti has been an indispensable pillar of Ethiopia’s industrialization journey.
As for the recurring narrative about the « billions paid to Djibouti». I welcome a transparent, fact-based debate with open books and verifiable data.
Be my guest.
I speak not from theory, but from direct involvement as one of the contributors and witnesses to this exceptional 🇩🇯🇪🇹 partnership journey. And also a great friend and lover of Ethiopia.
You may well find that an apology to Djibouti is in order.
Djibouti is not a burden.
Djibouti is and has been a #strategic #multiplier for Ethiopia.

The leaders of Ethiopia, Djibouti and Somalia are meeting in Djibouti Wednesday, discussing regional issues, as well as the Middle East conflict and its “possible economic repercussions and harms for our region.”

Tripartite talks between President Guelleh, his Somali counterpart and the Ethiopian Prime Minister

The President of the Republic, His Excellency Ismail Omar Guelleh, this Wednesday, early in the evening, had tripartite interviews with the leaders of Ethiopia and Somalia, Mr. Abiy Ahmed Ali and Mr. Hassan Cheikh Mahamoud.

Placed under the sign of consultation and understanding of common challenges to our region through the prism of solidarity and synergy of decisions and actions, these meetings took place at the private residence of the Head of State in Haramous, around an Iftar dinner.

Peace and security in the region, the state of development of its economic integration, resolutions of shared interests for all three countries and the prevailing situation in the subregion were discussed during this meeting.

The discussions then focused on the current conflict in the Middle East and its possible economic repercussions and harms for our region.

Note that the Ethiopian Prime Minister and the Somali President arrived in Djibouti this afternoon for a 24-hour visit.

As part of his current visit to Djibouti, the Ethiopian Prime Minister is accompanied by Mr. Aden Farah, Deputy Prime Minister and Vice President of the ruling Prosperity Party in Ethiopia, Mr. Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance, Mr. Mohammed Edris, Minister of Peace, Mr. Aden Radwan Hussein, Chief of National Security with the rank of Minister, with Mr Berhanu Tsegaye, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, with Mr Betre Mengistu, Chief of Cabinet with the rank of the Minister of State and His Excellency Legesse Tulu Adera, Ambassador of the Federal and Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Republic of Djibouti.

The President of Somalia is, on his part, accompanied by an important delegation including, the Minister of Defense, Mr Ahmed Moalim Faqi, the Minister of Ports, Mr Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, the Minister of Aviation, Mr Mohamed Farah Nur, the Ministry of Public Works, Mr Ayoub Ismail Yusuf and the Minister From State to Security, Mohamed Ali Haga.

As for the Head of State, His Excellency Ismail Omar Guelleh, he was, at this meeting, accompanied by the Minister of Economy and Finance, in charge of Industry, Mr. Ilyas Moussa Dawaleh, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr. Abdoulkader Houssein Omar, the Minister of Defense, Mr Hassan Omar Mohamed, Head of National Security Mr Hassan Said Kaireh and Ambassador of the Republic of Djibouti to the Federal and Democratic Republic of Ethiopia Mr Abdi Mahamoud Aybeh

It should be noted that this meeting of the leaders of Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia is part of the string of circumstantial and large-scale meetings specifically convened for the ultimate goal of defining a new strategic course of actions and objectives for the countries of the subregion.
