Wess Roley, 20, killed 2 firefighters in Idaho brush fire sparked with flint. Not MAGA-related. Fits psych data on boys from divorced homes raised by moms: higher risk of destructive behavior. Here's why this matters:
Through the challenging waters of mid-life God seems to be teaching me the importance of accepting my circumstances, and of experiencing the profound peace/joy/love of Jesus no matter the situation. Andrew Murray, Brother Lawrence, and Henri Nouwen have been helpful guides.

When faced with temptation, Jesus quoted Moses: “Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.” The Psalms are daily bread for my hungry soul. I’ve been reading one a day for years, and they truly nourish and sustain my heart and mind.
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39
He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
Psalm 147:3-4
The star namer is our heart healer.
“Search me, O God, and know my heart!
Try me and know my thoughts!
And see if there be any grievous way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting!”
Psalm 139:23-24
“Likewise, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words.”
Romans 8:26
I just discovered this gem in what seems an unlikely place: “It is in defeat that we become Christian…I don’t mean technically Christian. I mean like our Lord.” Ernest Hemingway, A Farewell to Arms.
@drantbradley Adams' book changed my life. You are right about its' prevalence in the South. Ministry attracts mother enmeshed men. Multiple guys on our staff have all gotten help and we talk about it together often. We have progress to make on increasing church-wide awareness.
“The crushing burdens of this world cannot be borne by the people of God unless those people have learned the breadth and height and depth of the love of God for themselves.”
Diane Langberg, In Our Lives First.
