Imagine if Carolina just gave up on Bryce Young and traded him away. They benched him and let him continue to grow and learn and he turned out ok. Instead we get washed up Kyler to take us nowhere.
🚨WHOAH!🚨 Jameis Winston today on Giants trading for JJ McCarthy, "It's just like two guys in a classroom. He sits on one side, I sit on the other side, and it's the coaches' responsibility to teach us and coach us."
First 10 starts in the NFL:
JJ McCarthy: 6-4 record, 57.6%, 11 TD/12 INT, 72.6 RAT
-
Josh Allen: 4-6 record, 52.3%, 7 TD/11 INT, 65.0 RAT
-
Peyton Manning: 2-8 record, 55.3%, 15 TD/20 INT, 64.2
- RAT
Matthew Stafford: 2-8, 53.3%, 13 TD/20 INT, 61.0 RAT
-
Eli Manning: 3-7, 50%, 11 TD/11 INT, 65.9 RAT

Not a McCarthy sell job (at all) - but Kevin O'Connell's quote about organizations failing quarterbacks was in my head this morning.
This is the point.
Nobody is saying J.J. McCarthy is going to become Josh Allen, Peyton Manning or Matthew Stafford.
The point is that 10 starts at age 22-23 is nowhere near enough evidence to declare a quarterback finished.
McCarthy: 6-4, 57.6%, 11 TD, 12 INT, 72.6 rating.
There are things on the tape that need fixing. There are also traits worth developing.
For a 2027 fifth-round pick, the Giants bought themselves the opportunity to find out.
HOLY SH*T! 😳😳😳
Reports out of Minnesota say that Kyler Murray and JJ McCarthy would FREQUENTLY resort to name calling during arguments in practice, with Murray calling McCarthy “JJ McShortBus” and McCarthy referring to him as “Midget Murray.”
After Sunday’s win over Tampa Bay, JJ allegedly said some words to Kyler that struck a nerve, leading to Murray telling upper management “It’s him or me.”
The #Vikings chose Murray. 🍿👀
I’m going say this once and then move on. Vikings GM Nolan Teasley and Head Coach Kevin O’Connell buried JJ McCarthy in the depth chart and ultimately traded him largely because of memes. I know what you’re thinking, there’s no way the leaders inside the org evaluating the players would make decisions based on the noise. I think that’s normally true, but in this case, the way JJ was being portrayed in the media affected their decision. They didn’t want to hitch their own careers to a guy that was being dragged through the mud publicly. The fact is JJ showed flashes of brilliance and steady progress in his first 10 starts. No other 1st round QB would’ve been abandoned under these circumstances. Now the Vikings have the 32nd ranked offense in the NFL because their leaders are cowards and hypocrites. I don’t know if JJ will pan out in the NFL but I do know what he’s made of and his ceiling is higher than most people realize. I’m hoping that John Harbaugh can provide the steady leadership JJ needs to realize his full potential.
One press conference. That's all it took.
J.J. McCarthy was 2-1. Beat the Bears. Had the 'Where else would you rather be?' energy. Had just beaten the Lions. Had true aura going for him. The fan base was in.
Then he said 'Nine.'
And that was the end.
@Vikings Organizations fail young quarterbacks... exactly what happened here. Get O'Connell out of here! Completely blundering the development of his consensus top 10 hand picked QB.
JJ McCarthy's last 4 games last season:
- 7 TD
- 2 INT
- 8.3 Yd/Attempt
- Won all 4 games
Terrible start to the season, but finished strong.
100% worth a flyer.
