@Romy_Holland You'll probably be waiting another couple weeks still tbh. Usually decent camrips come out after the hype has died a bit and it's been distributed to more countries and such
@_fat_ugly_rat_ I'm not sure there are even 3 other cities that get halfway. London and Paris can hit 500B, but Tokyo, HK, Singapore, Seoul, Shanghai all max around 350.
@freed_dfilan I think Nick is a strong source for the general claim "this is an important breakthrough"
I also think it's insanely far from solving rsi xrisk concerns!
But important, sure. Something the survivors in the good timeline can look back on in their history as a turning point.
@fuckwordman@confusionm8trix It really is very analogous to organic stuff moreso than code. A farmer from before cellular or genetic theory understood how to grow and breed wheat and cattle - that knowledge was hard won and 'lucky' and obtuse on some level. But it works!
@fuckwordman@confusionm8trix I'm not sure what kind of resource would help; I'd genuinely just start at Wikipedia?
Like, yes, it is lucky and obtuse and ignorant. It just _turns out_ that if arrange numbers the right way and stir them right you get little machine elves that solve Millennium problems.
@fuckwordman@confusionm8trix The algorithm someone designed is "stir the numbers and see". Running inference is "multiply the numbers now that you stirred so good". You still can't see into the trillion+ numbers.
A parenting book might be something you could write down as pseudo code. A 14 year old is not.
@mattparlmer the guy who wrote the big news today and the guy who first coined the terms for how impossible interpretability was a decade ago are, literally, the same guy
@fuckwordman@confusionm8trix ML is not code. You don't write it. You just stir up the trillions of floating point numbers until it does stuff.
It's way more like asking a parent why their 14 year old did something - except, Nick is claiming, we have good enough tools now to just read the teenager's brain
@nickcammarata They're saying after he unclenched he saw the simple straight forward solution to the most important thing in the world
Bitter lesson to interpretability. It sounds so obvious.
@urbanbeachbum@Car_Free_USA I did! It's unjustly expensive because we have artificially imposed supply constraints, though, leading to huge deadweight economic loss.
@RandyMa06047425@LinkofSunshine Seattle has a much better median wage/housing+transportation cost ratio than Dallas does. People in Dallas do not earn more.
This is also. A price adjusted chart. That's the entire point of the chart.
