For those who feel it necessary to post “Juneteenth is a made up holiday,” all holidays are made up, you walnuts.
Can’t you just let people celebrate, be happy, and honor what is important to them and maybe even take the time to learn why?
Some of y’all are just weirdos.
This Juneteenth, we should remind ourselves of two facts:
1. Those who don’t learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
2. Those who prevent history from being taught are plotting to repeat it.
It’s as simple as that.
News flash for the weirdos complaining about Juneteenth being a "made up" holiday - quite literally, every single holiday is a human invention. Just enjoy the day off and say you're a fucking racist.
The problem with racist white people is that they think they’re right about everything. They try to rewrite history to make themselves look better, minimize the harm done to Black people, and justify actions that should never be defended.
Accountability feels like an attack to them, so they would rather distort the truth than confront it.
The truth is…history doesn’t change just because it makes white people uncomfortable.
Acknowledging what happened isn’t about creating division…it’s about recognizing reality and ensuring those mistakes aren’t repeated.
White Privilege is being a former Escort that can barely speak English properly and people honor you at the White House meanwhile a successful accomplished Black Women gets disrespected 10 years removed from office.
There are white people on this timeline seriously claiming racism didn’t exist until Obama became president and that he’s responsible for the division in this country.
Racism existed long before Obama ever stepped foot in the White House. Slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, redlining, lynchings, voter suppression, and countless acts of discrimination all happened before 2008.
What Obama’s presidency did was expose how uncomfortable some people were with seeing a Black man occupy the highest office in the country. The division wasn’t created by his existence…it was revealed by the reaction to it.
You can disagree with Obama’s policies all day, but blaming him for the existence of racism is either ignorance or a deliberate attempt to rewrite history.
