This happened two nights ago at Haven Rescue. The young dog is Chance a two-year-old Pit Bull who was seized from a fighting operation last week. He was used as a "bait dog" the dog fighters use to train aggressive dogs. Covered in
fresh wounds. Absolutely traumatized.
Won't eat. Won't move. Just shakes against the kennel wall. The older dog is Moses-a twelve-year-old Saint Bernard who's been at Safe Haven for four years.
Staff put them together because the facility was overcrowded. Security footage from 11:47 PM shows Moses waking up, looking at Chance shaking against the wall, and slowly getting to his feet. Moses is massive-over 180 pounds-but he approached so gently. Laid down right beside Chance. Draped his huge head across Chance's shoulders. By morning, Chance had stopped shaking. Was pressed against Moses's side. Actually sleeping. Shelter director told us: "Moses has comforted seventeen scared, abused dogs in four years. He's never been adopted because he's too old, too big, too expensive to care for. But he's saved seventeen broken souls by just lying beside them and showing them what safety feels like." Sometimes the ones nobody wants carry the greatest capacity to heal the ones nobody could save.
A high school principal lost his job after breaking school rules to help a homeless student, providing him with food and a safe place to sleep. Years later, he watched that same student walk across the graduation stage—this time as his son.
The deeply moving story centers on Robert Burnside, former principal of Lakota East High School in Ohio, and Landerius “DeDe” Hayes. In 2024, 16-year-old Hayes became homeless through circumstances beyond his control. When his mother’s new address placed him outside the school district’s boundaries, officials ordered him to withdraw. Burnside refused to let the teenager be abandoned, challenging the decision and allowing Hayes to remain in school. The district ultimately viewed his actions as insubordination.
As the situation escalated into an investigation, Burnside chose to stand by Hayes, eventually resigning from a decades-long career in education. He and his wife, Angel, then took another extraordinary step, becoming Hayes’ permanent legal guardians and welcoming him into their home alongside their six other children. In May 2026, Burnside watched Hayes graduate at the Cintas Center—not as his principal, but proudly as his father.

DOES ANYONE RECOGNIZE THESE GUYS
WHO ARE THEY????
In the 1940s, Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar was committed to his teaching role at the University of Chicago, despite being based at the Yerkes Observatory. Each week, he traveled 80 miles to teach a special course attended by only two students. The students were Tsung-Dao Lee and Chen-Ning Yang. They proved their mentor's faith was well-placed when they both won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1957, years before Chandrasekhar received the same honor in 1983. Remarkably, this course went down in history as the only one where every attendee received a Nobel Prize, underscoring the extraordinary impact of Chandrasekhar's dedication and teaching.
