Joseph Massad puts the treachery of the "Palestinian Authority" in perspective:

There is a peculiar genius among certain Muslim intellectuals in the West: they can detect Islamophobia everywhere except where naming it might cost them something. In Paris, they are forensic. In Delhi, incandescent. In Gaza, thunderous. In Washington, fluent in the grammar of empire. But when Muslim political agency is crushed in Pakistan, when Imran Khan is imprisoned and millions of his supporters are treated as civic contamination, the vocabulary collapses. The seminar goes quiet.

At a recent gathering of social scientists in Washington, DC, a Pakistani-American academic spoke movingly about Palestine. The vocabulary was polished, the grief sincere, the analysis appropriately grave. Then a Palestinian academic asked the question that should stalk every Pakistani and South Asian intellectual in the West: why are you so eloquent about Palestine and so silent about Pakistan? Why can you name Zionism but not Imran Khan? Why can you speak of genocide but not General Asim Munir, Trump’s favorite field marshal, presiding over Pakistan’s quasi-dictatorial order? Why does Pakistan — the country you analyze, inherit, visit, romanticize, and perform — become unspeakable precisely when it most needs speech?

Imran Khan was never good for western powers.
You know why?
Because he talked about issues that perhaps did not directly affect Pakistanis but certainly directly impacted and in turn galvanised Muslim diasporic communities in the west - issues that implicated western governments whose foreign policy DID ultimately affect the lives of Pakistanis.
Western powers love to both hold onto/perpetuate and exploit the idea of the inherently corrupt and backward “oriental” leader, which is why they’ve always only maintained close ties to the puppet leaders in the “orient” who fit that caricature.
But Imran Khan disrupted those myths by reclaiming his identity, not groveling to western leaders, and standing with such audacious pride and conviction on the global stage - honing on issues that have been largely ignored by our puppet leaders but actually matter deeply in the bigger global picture.
Issues like the global Islamophobia industry, colonialist, imperialist, Israeli-US agenda (namely their part in 9/11 and post 9/11 invasions and occupations), and the entire military industrial complex.
Sadly, some of these issues aren’t perceived to directly impact ordinary Pakistanis, so his national infrastructure related shortcomings were propagandized and Pakistanis found his leadership falling short.
But Imran Khan did what no other leader of that region has been able to do - he dramatically shifted something in the global political narrative for Muslims and galvanized people towards a movement rooted in dignity and freedom.
I believe his legacy will ultimately be that he opened up conversations on a global scale that those who remain internally and eternally colonized would never have had the audacity to do so.
And I believe the legacy of those who are responsible for his imprisonment will ultimately be colluders who “missed the forest for the trees” and became architects of their own demise.
The govt's decision to ban the Jammu & Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee (JKJAAC) is highly condemnable, but sadly, comes as no surprise. Questioning the state's authoritarian policies & particularly its hold on resources is the new definition of 'terrorism' is Pakistan.
After blatant pre-poll rigging in Gilgit-Baltistan where PTI was not allowed to campaign, the state has banned Awami Action Committee in Kashmir. Repression during elections will only fuel resentment & create further instability. Reverse this suicidal policy before its too late.
A new round of repression has begun. Raids against BNP's leaders in Balochistan, stopping PTI leaders from campaigning in Gilgit-Baltistan, FIR registered against opposition leader. Aim of these draconian measures is to distract from economic failures of this illegitimate govt.

The Pakistani-American diaspora is not monolithic-- not everyone thought Trump would be our savior. Glad to have said so on the record to @zeteo_news on behalf of @Alliance4PJ
"Mehlaqa Samdani, the executive director of the Community Alliance for Peace and Justice – which works to improve U.S. foreign policy towards Pakistan and Palestine – called the Trump endorsement “pathetic” and “horrible.”
“This whole Trump endorsement made [a] laughing stock out of this entire diaspora movement,” she told Zeteo.
Samdani pointed out that the Pakistani diaspora is, of course, not a monolith, and that there were groups like hers who were “vehemently against voting for Trump,” and were trying to get other groups to not support him, arguing he hadn’t guaranteed anything, that he couldn’t be trusted, and that an endorsement would be “throwing Muslim Americans under the bus” given his blatant Islamophobia seen in his first term."

"For years, Pakistanis were instructed to disbelieve their own eyes. Imran Khan’s removal, they were told, was ordinary parliamentary procedure. The military was “neutral.” Washington was innocent. The generals were constitutional saints. The cypher was a prop, a fantasy, a wounded populist’s fever dream.
Then Drop Site News released the cypher in full."

In prison, former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan reads two of my books, Washington Bullets and Darker Nations (as well as Fanon, Cabral, and Galeano), and sends this message:
'The US-Israeli killing machine knows no limits, gets complete obedience from its puppet regimes, and is not only at war with Muslims, but with all oppressed people everywhere. Our struggle is against both Pakistani and global tyranny'.

The US role in the coup against Pakistani PM Imran Khan is undeniable.
Yet, elected officials and journalists in the US remain overwhelmingly silent.
Where is the accountability?
