There's nothing wrong with admitting our failures as academics. I often feel insecure; that my writing is not good enough, that I'm not articulate enough and that I'll never be fully accepted in academia. Surely everyone feels like that...at least some of the time, don't they?
A great thread. #failurecvs show an academic has been courageous enough to put themselves out there and changes the conversation around what it means to be an academic. Thank you! https://t.co/SMMe1XdCYz
#professorsarehumantoo. Thank you, @RAKarl for this honest, brave post about your tenure denial experience. More academics need to share experiences like these, because rejection is far more common than not in academia, and the last thing we need is to isolate ourselves for it. https://t.co/j8KPFLffvD
It’s that time of year for tenure/job/fellowship announcement tweets. I have my own professional news to share, but it’s not like most of what’s out there
I wasn’t awarded tenure + will be leaving Princeton this time next year
Yesterday was a profoundly disturbing moment for #polisci. An editor of the discipline’s top journal abused his privilege to deny accuser claims. Imagine how accusers (already put in a vulnerable position) felt seeing their claims publicly refuted in such a high profile way. https://t.co/JQY6Vt506E
after months of waiting I finally got my copy of #FailingUp by @leslieodomjr today. I've only read the prologue so far but I can already tell that this is a life-changing read..
Great advice. Presumably there are high levels of depression and anxiety in higher ed, which can “lie” to you about being a failure, when in fact, you’re not! We’re all about turning the idea of failure upside down. #professorsarehumantoo#failurecv https://t.co/ZiGigFRKoW
One big picture idea behind #professorsarehumantoo is to normalize owning mistakes. A roadblock toward a more accepting world is ego driven denial of shortcomings, big & small. We have to break the stigma of denying mistakes. Professors can model this for younger generations.
Failure is a part of mastery: “Success is hitting that 10 ring; mastery is knowing it means nothing if you can't do it again. Mastery is not the same as success, which [is] a moment in time. Mastery is not a commitment to a goal but to a constant pursuit.” Sarah Lewis. #failurecv
