@dweillTrocadero@DAMendelsohnNYC@RichardHanania Seems like pretty selective prosecution to me. And just because Homer describes something doesn’t mean he defends it or approves of it. What is your punishment for Odysseus lying about being insane to dodge the draft? I assume you think that’s just boys being boys?
@DAMendelsohnNYC@RichardHanania Okay then where’s the line? How did the slaves “betray” Penelope? Homer even hints Penelope liked the suitors’ attention. Laertes never lifts a finger to stop it and Telemachus mostly pouts. But the slave women were expected to stand up to them?
@DAMendelsohnNYC@RichardHanania I think there are limits to this Xenia defense. Now we’ve begun defending it because “if they were all like the worst one, they were criminals and deserved it.” I’m not sure how this doesn’t lead to just killing anyone who forgets to bring a housewarming gift.
@DAMendelsohnNYC@DameednaDavid@rogueclassicist I certainly respect your opinion and would be interested to hear more. Do you think it was justified? Even after they apologized and offered to make restitution?
Theseus, who was given three wishes by his father Poseidon, uses his last wish to cause the death of his son Hippolytus in this tragic retelling of the myth by Euripides…

@BillAckman@NYCMayor There’s a reason rich people used to be told to be quiet about their money. There’s a reason frugality was encouraged even among rich people. Your style of wealth is obnoxious. You flaunt it. And then you’re shocked when it creates resentment. Cry more.
@RonDeSantis So “recent scholarship” trumps Supreme Court precedent? Do you live by any principles? Can you imagine what you idiots would say to someone who said “true it is assumed the second amendment allows citizens to have machine guns but recent scholarship has shown that’s wrong.”
@davidfrum I feel like if Americans are good at anything, it’s practical industrial and commercial organization. Are we particularly good at patriotic celebration? A parade with fire trucks/local
Girl Scout troop and fireworks on Fourth of July isn’t especially inspired ceremony.
Both politics and morality are human endeavors and are as interwoven as we choose. If voters demand politicians behave morally, then politicians must either be moral at pretend. Either way it’s a relation. If you want to make a blanket statement about morality you could say morality has no relation to the laws of physics or the principles of photosynthesis.
