A framework for legislation and policy governing anti-corruption and integrity commissions overseeing the public sector has been released by the NACC. https://t.co/vC7lNpTg57
"Transparency sits at the heart of our democracy. If we do not know what is done in our name, how do we exercise informed political judgement? In a troubled world, transparency is more essential than ever." Timely article from @KieranPender via @THEMONTHLY https://t.co/gtncoIUVuL
It is an open secret that former politicians use their knowledge and connections to help corporations secure government contracts.
Yet Australia has some of weakest restrictions on lobbyists in the world.
My #CleanUpPoliticsAct would change that. https://t.co/HBNXcTZrAi
#Breaking: The Full Court has affirmed that a 3 year delay (now 4) in the @OAICgov reviewing an #FOI decision is not legally unreasonable, just “unfortunate”. The right of timely info access to scrutinise Govt is solely up to the same Govt’s willingness to fund the OAIC. #auspol
When South Australian Parliament made these changes in 2021, the National Integrity Committee w/ @TheAusInstitute warned:
"the recent amendments raise a real concern that integrity reform has been set back considerably in South Australia."

Tax office whistleblower Richard Boyle wonders if legal and political authorities understand the negative impact government institutions are having on society. https://t.co/nF47qDPlCy
Extraordinary how 3 judges found Richard Boyle to be a whistleblower BUT after lawyers argued over one word, 'making', he now faces criminal trial #auspol@MrRexPatrick

There is a growing push from politicians and legal experts for the Albanese government to establish a body to protect whistleblowers. https://t.co/UgRsaObDqI
The SA Court of Appeal has unanimously dismissed @Richard_D_Boyle’s appeal - thereby declaring how broken our Federal whistleblower protection laws are. The reasons have been temporarily suppressed. @MarkDreyfusKCMP must drop this prosecution. #auspol
Richard Boyle did the right thing by small taxpayers getting their bank accounts garnished unfairly - he now faces jail - while multinational tax dodgers are mollycoddled

The struggle for securing public integrity must be won — for all our sakes.
“Transparency is abysmal, with an alarming culture of secrecy pervading our government institutions.
With ineffective FOI processes characterised by prolonged delays and dubious claims of commercial and cabinet confidentiality, and a public service muzzled from providing frank and fearless advice, our democratic processes suffer.
Substantial reforms must be secured in order to foster a culture of openness and ensure public servants can execute their duties without fear of retribution.
“Lobbying too remains in desperate need of reform. There is no adequate register, and no requirement at the federal level that ministers’ diaries must be public (with the detail disclosed sufficient to be meaningful).
Nor is there yet any proposal to properly close the revolving door and prevent ministers and senior public servants leaving a position and moving immediately to lucrative positions in the private sector in the same field in which they previously worked.
“As if this were not enough, pork barrelling, political finance reform and protections for whistleblowers remain reform priorities that the Government has so far failed to address.”

🚨We welcome the Senate inquiry report calling for new rules on government use of consultants. @ClancyMoore says, "It’s a damning indictment of the Commonwealth’s overreliance on consultancy firms, and their lack of accountability." https://t.co/iyfyXuKFQL
Exhaustive final report from @AuSenate inquiry into the integrity of the consulting industry - billions of dollars in public money is spent on consultants, who have abused confidential information, undermined the public sector and misled Parliament. https://t.co/1yQORBmqY5
Watchdog walks away, saying new evidence unlikely to be found with five of six referrals already before APSC Code of Conduct investigation. https://t.co/ASkesJYMIc
'Boyd describes the big four's "insidious and creeping expansion" into the public service had not only drained it of agency motivation and experience but it had threatened the integrity of government decision-making.'

In Estimates I asked about the status of over 100 Defence staff recruited by KPMG. The question went to the heart of our national security but Defence decided to side-step it using a ploy straight out of the new handbook on how to avoid answering questions asked by senators. FAIL
