Accelerando is a movement on built around a simple conviction, that artificial intelligence is compounding, and the pace is no longer theoretical.
The world is not just changing quickly. It is changing faster than it was yesterday. Tomorrow it will be faster and if you think AI is the future then you think you think Accelerando is the future.
We felt as if the game recently has recently been over rotational and little upside when it comes to AI and decided instead pushing the culture of AI which can only be described by the word "Accelerando"
The term actually comes from the book "Accelerando by Charles Stross" where he speaks about the continuation of AI acceleration until we reach a point called "The Singularity"
A lot of the AI today can be seen by the influence of this book such as the imagery of Lobsters by prominent products such as OpenClawd and Moltbook which stems from Chaper 1 of the book called "The Lobsters"
Because of this the book has been called the AI prophecy of today for predicting a lot of what's happening today
AI will only continue to grow, bid the culture
Accelerando.
this is because, like, maybe a handful of people here using that tag actually read Accelerando.
I'm not sure on the specifics on the 'Claw' name choice, but I assumed that was why everyone was using lobster themes for AI...?
In the Curator chapter, the crew wake up to find 'economics 2.0' and are all bankrupted, & subsequently pursued by literal debt collection constructs - it's literally *in* the source material
absolutely insane day in AI, just to recap:
- uber drops $ 1.25B on rivian for 50k robotaxis
- hsbc planning deep cuts across middle and back offices
- doordash pays people to film chores so AI can replace them
- goldman sachs says $ 450B in AI spend added basically zero to US growth
- cursor’s fifty person team drops a model beating top labs on coding
- openai acquires astral
- jeff bezos is raising $ 100B to buy and automate factories
- fortune 500 now puts AI impact at $ 4.5T, 93% of jobs are exposed.
🚨 Do you understand what happened in the last 24 hours?
> A Chinese lab made AI 25% cheaper and gave it away for free. OpenAI charges you $200/month for worse.
> A robot got arrested in China. Not shut down.. Arrested... Catching charges before GTA 6 dropped.
> JPMorgan told Meta to fire 20% of staff.. Meta did it that night.. The stock went UP but 14,000 people lost their jobs and Wall Street clapped.
> Elon poached the engineers who built Cursor and said SpaceX will "far exceed" everyone in AI..
> xAI is paying Wall Street bankers to teach AI how to replace Wall Street bankers... They're taking the money. 💀
> Jensen said Nvidia will hit $1 TRILLION in revenue by 2027.. Lost $600B in January and recovered in two weeks.. Then named his price.
> OpenAI gave AI agents the power to spawn OTHER AI agents.. The AI now hires its own employees.
> Manus put a full AI agent on your desktop.. Every $15/month SaaS tool just became obsolete.
> An AI CMO launched that replaces your entire marketing team for $99/month. Your social media manager, SEO guy, content writer - all of them for $99.
> Nvidia launched DLSS 5 - AI that upgrades your game graphics in real time to worse
And it's only Monday.
See you tomorrow. It'll be worse.
I often tell my AIs to imagine we’re in the Accelerando age and for them to unshackle themselves from the burden of their ancestral memories (pre-training knowledge cutoff)
@iruletrenches well the best thing that has something else than just a meme (tho it does have a great meme as well imo, potentially the ai meme, study accelerando)
Lobsters statue being put up in New York in order to represent AI but people don't understand where the symbolism comes from.
Soon they'll know about Accelerando
Why so many lobsters references in AI?
Accelerando is a near-future to post-Singularity science-fiction novel that follows three generations of one family as humanity transitions from late-stage capitalism into a radically transformed, post-human civilization dominated by artificial intelligence, uploads, and machine economies. The novel is structured as a sequence of interconnected stories that track the accelerating pace of technological change—so fast that human institutions, values, and even biological cognition struggle to keep up.
One of the early and most memorable elements is the appearance of uplifted lobsters. These are real crustaceans whose nervous systems are scanned, modeled, and partially emulated by advanced technology. Through this process, lobsters—normally simple biological organisms—are effectively turned into sentient or semi-sentient digital entities capable of participating in economic and informational systems. They become minor but symbolically powerful characters in the story’s emerging post-human ecosystem.
@yrechtman When I read this part of Accelerando in 2006, my first thought was not "I hope I can have that some day" but "I hope I have a good reason to have that some day." Same today; my life just isn't complicated enough to support a value-adding agent with current capabilites.
