New York Attorney General Letitia James says FIFA is now under investigation over World Cup ticket pricing after reports that prices for many matches jumped dramatically within weeks.
According to James:
- ticket prices for many games increased by roughly 34%
- some final-match tickets reportedly reached around $4,000
- and consumers may have been misled by FIFA’s pricing and marketing practices
That’s the bigger issue underneath this story:
The World Cup is marketed as a global event for ordinary fans…
but major sporting events increasingly feel designed for corporations, luxury buyers, and wealthy spectators first.
At a certain point people stop feeling like fans and start feeling like they’re being dynamically priced out of culture itself.
