#RIP
Beloved transgender actress, author & activist Cecilia Gentili has passed away. Gentili was a towering presence in New York City, an asylum seeker who spent her life fighting for the rights of undocumented immigrants, sex workers, and LGBTQ+ people.

Cecilia Gentili was a living legend. A titan, an unapologetic example of trans joy and power. Her spirit lives on in all whom she touched and all she built for us. Rest powerfully and peacefully, Mami. And go kiki with the ancestors. You deserve eternal pleasure. 🙏🏽
(1/8) As many of you have heard by now, @CeciliaGentili passed away yesterday. There simply are not enough words to express how profoundly special Cecilia was, how much she meant to our communities, and how much she put her entire soul into this movement and the people in it.
.@NYPDnews likely chose to announce they’re hiring 900 new cops on a Friday night because they wanted the story buried. @NYCMayor other city workers are being furloughed but we have money for 900 cops to not wear mask and beat up Black & brown folks?
#WalkingWhileTrans should not be a crime. NYS needs to uphold to its progressive values and stop the illegal profiling of trans individuals in NYC. As we fight to pass this law in Albany, I will continue to work to ensure my corresponding resolution is passed in @NYCCouncil.
Don't know about PL 240.37 & want to learn more?! Check out our dope one-pager explaining the issue & the impact of repealing this discriminatory & misogynist statute. Let's end gender-based profiling together this session by demanding the repeal of the #walkingwhiletrans ban
This right here is because of the fierce leadership of Black & Latinx Trans & cis women who know the discriminatory impact this law has had for 44 yrs. @TS_Candii @BianeyDlaO
Thanks for the support and we are ready for @NYGovCuomo@NYSenDems to repeal the #walkingwhiletrans ban
Police often use prostitution-related statutes to profile, target & harass trans and gender non-conforming people of color. #WalkingWhileTrans is not a crime!
To learn more about Bianey’s story, read our report on decriminalizing sex work: https://t.co/0iZaewlTRg
As an undocumented Black mother, Mystique found safety in sex work, which kept herself & her daughter housed when social services failed them #sexworkiswork#DecrimNow

Vice policing uses undercover stings & raids to arrest sex workers. Vice units across the country have been accused of sexual misconduct
A majority of the country, including 59% of Democrats, wants to end vice policing. #DefundVice

Trans women of color in our city are being arrested based on nothing more than their appearance. That’s not right.
We must repeal the ban on “Walking While Trans” so all New Yorkers—no matter their gender identity—can live and travel without fear of harassment
This law is the same as it was 44 yrs ago - a racist, transphobic, and misogynistic statute meant to criminalize trans and cis bodies and deny them the right to walk freely!
Today is the day we will be in Albany demanding that the legislature pass bills that will decarcerate and reduce racial and gender-based profiling.
Repeal the #walkingwhiletrans ban and pass the #lessismoreNY act
We’re sharing 19 highlights of 2019 and #12 is about the work our team has done this year to support #sexworkers!
We’ve been supporting @DecrimNY to repeal the #WalkingWhileTrans law and we're activating political education for sex workers, community members and politicians.
Excited to learn from Sociologist Prof. Bernstein @bcrwtweets speaking at @bluestockings with @redlightreader about her book, “Brokered Subjects: Sex Trafficking and the Politics of Freedom” — on anti-trafficking movement’s appropriation of sex work & harms of carceral feminism.
