11 US cities are hosting World Cup matches. Vegas got zero. But it’s still the only place where you can watch a game on a 3-story sportsbook screen, hit a parlay, and blow the winnings at a strip club before the next kickoff.
Robert Plant looking out over the Sunset Strip from a balcony at the Continental Hyatt House in March 1975. Photo by Peter Simon. They were in LA during their North American tour, and their massive double album, Physical Graffiti, had just hit the shelves. The Hyatt House—better known back then as the Riot House—was the ultimate rock star hangout on the Strip. What you can't see in this frame is what Robert is actually grinning at. Right across the street was a giant billboard advertising the new record. The photographer later remembered that right as he snapped this picture, Plant leaned out over the edge and yelled, I am a golden god!
