π This year, ACFODE proudly celebrates 40 years of championing the rights of women and girls and advancing gender equality in Uganda!
For four decades, we have stood alongside local communities to challenge discrimination, expand opportunities, and build a more just and inclusive nation.
While the numbers tell part of the story, the true impact of this journey lives in the courage of women and girls, the resilience of communities, and the invaluable support of partners who have opened doors, created opportunities, and inspired change.
Have you been part of this journey? If so, join us in celebrating #40YearsOfImpact by sharing your memories, experiences, and reflections using #ACFODEAt40

What happens when children get behind the microphone? Communities listen.
Members of the Gender Based Violence (GBV) Prevention Club at Bukere Secondary School joined ACFODE on a radio talk show on 8 July, to share why children's rights matter, why education should come first, how positive parenting makes a difference, and what communities can do to prevent gender based violence.
The discussion resonated with listeners across Kibuye, Kamwenge, Mpara and Kasese, many of whom called in to appreciate the initiative and encouraged ACFODE to reach even more young people during the school holidays.

The Local Council I and II elections are drawing closer, and the Electoral Commission has already issued a clear electoral programme outlining the key activities and important dates.
This roadmap is intended to keep all stakeholders informed about what will happen, when it will happen, and how they can effectively participate in the electoral process. #OpenGovUg
Policies matter, but a policy on paper doesn't automatically make life safer for a woman or girl.
Change happens when commitments reach communities, leaders are accountable, and when women and girls can experience their rights in everyday life.
Through advocacy, civic engagement and movement building, we continue to champion lasting change that begins with communities.
As we continue to celebrate 40 years of advancing women's rights, we remain committed to ensuring that promises made in policy become realities lived by every woman and girl.

In Humura Village, Kyaka II Refugee Settlement, where daily life carries both resilience and hope, people are choosing dialogue over division.
ACFODE, in collaboration with the office of the prime minister, brought refugees and host community members together on 24th June to talk about peacebuilding and conflict management.
In these conversations, walls of tension begin to soften, and small steps of understanding grow into trust, helping communities move forward together.

Sometimes, the most powerful thing we can offer is a safe space to be heard.
Last week in Kaborogota, ACFODE brought together 52 women to talk, learn, and support one another through conversations on preventing gender based violence, peacebuilding, conflict management, and available support services.
The sessions also connected 10 survivors with counseling and additional support, showing that healing begins when people know they are not alone.

Happy International Week of Cooperatives! π
What makes a cooperative different from a regular business?
In a cooperative, the people who use it are also the owners. Women and men have a say in the decisions, share the opportunities, and benefit from the success together.
That is why cooperatives are such a powerful tool for women's economic empowerment. When women have an equal voice and equal access to opportunities, families, communities, and businesses all thrive.

When Uganda's Constitution was being shaped in the early 1990s, women refused to be spectators in decisions that would define the nation's future.
Together with other women's rights advocates, ACFODE mobilized women across the country, amplified their voices, and championed constitutional provisions that advanced gender equality, affirmative action, and women's participation in leadership.
Those efforts helped pave the way for greater representation of women in Parliament, local government, and other decision-making spaces.
Today, every woman who takes her seat at a council meeting, stands for elective office, or leads in her community is building on a legacy created by women who dared to demand inclusion when it was far from guaranteed.
As we continue to celebrate 40 years of ACFODE, we honour the women who challenged the status quo and helped shape a more inclusive Uganda.

Better decisions happen when women have a seat at the table.
Across Uganda, women are shaping local budgets, influencing community priorities, holding leaders accountable, and speaking up on issues that affect their communities.

Who decides how we respond to climate change? Too often, those most affected are left out.
Women and youth are already facing its impacts, yet their voices matter.
ACFODE champions their participation in climate governance because climate justice means everyone has a voice.
Congratulations to Bukere Secondary School for winning ACFODE's Annual Debate Competition, and to Kibuye Secondary School for emerging winners of the Poetry Competition!
