#ACFODEat40 | Inspiring Change Through Knowledge
“I counseled a friend out of a forced marriage.” – Esther Musimenta, 17, Senior Four student at Mubende Parents Day and Boarding Secondary School
When we first visited their school to teach about gender equality and GBV, Esther’s perception of gender roles changed completely. She learned that both men and women have equal potential, and that domestic chores aren’t limited by gender.
Today, Esther is a member of a student-led club raising awareness on GBV. The club has turned students from violent homes into ambassadors of peace within their communities.
Empowered by our training, Esther now counsels her peers, encourages girls to stay in school, and sensitizes families on the importance of equality and respect.
As we celebrate 40 years of @acfode, we look back at stories like Esther’s as reminders of how empowering young voices continues to shape a more equal and just Uganda.

Stories of Change | #ACFODEat40
Meet Ms. Florence Adong, a post-polio survivor who turned her story into a source of inspiration and change.
Through @acfode’s partnership with @KasUganda , Florence, an LCV Councillor for Women with Disabilities and Chairperson of Lira District Disabled Association, gained the advocacy and leadership skills that transformed not just her life, but also the lives of many other women with disabilities.
“Without the training from @acfode , I and other women with disabilities would have been totally left behind in political participation, leadership and decision-making,” she reflected.
Empowered through @acfode’s mentorship, Florence goes on to mentor other women with disabilities, ensuring they find their voices and take up positions of responsibility in their communities.
Her story is a powerful reminder of what 40 years of women’s empowerment can achieve, breaking barriers and opening doors for inclusion and leadership.
✨ As we celebrate #ACFODEat40, we honor change-makers like Florence whose journeys reflect the true impact of our work.

As we continue to countdown to #ACFODEat40, today we celebrate the story of Musabyimana Esperance, a teacher & senior woman leader at Bukere Primary School. Faced with rising cases of SGBV among learners, she became patron of ACFODE’s GBV Prevention Club—determined to act.
Through her leadership, learners now know the different forms of violence, how to report them, & where to seek support. Their vigilance has saved classmates from abuse & even kidnapping, proving the power of awareness.
Cases of violence in her school have dropped, while learners gain confidence, reproductive health knowledge & skills in conflict resolution. Club members now act as role models, organizing debates & leading by example.
Esperance no longer carries the weight alone - together, teachers, students & ACFODE are building safer schools & communities.

🌟 From Rebellion to Responsibility 🌟
At #ACFODEat40, we celebrate stories of transformation like Godfrey’s.
Once unwilling to listen to his parents & skipping school, life at home was tense. Conflicts with peers often turned bitter until Godfrey joined ACFODE’s Listener’s Club.
Through the club, he gained life-changing skills: making liquid soap for income, saving money, & learning respect for his parents. For the first time, he saw the value of education. Today, he is back in school (Primary 6), committed to finishing.
Now a role model, Godfrey counsels peers, promotes conflict resolution, and saves UGX 2,000 daily in a youth savings group. On weekends, he works in IT-related services to grow his dream of becoming an IT professional.
His journey shows the ripple effect of empowerment: when one boy changes, so does his family, peers, & community.

As we mark #ACFODEat40, we celebrate Viola Namara’s journey.
Once out of school & without hope, she found a lifeline in ACFODE’s My Right: No Violence project in Kanyinya Village. With training & encouragement, Viola returned to school, today serving as Academic Prefect & Listeners’ Club Chair.
From shy & withdrawn, she’s now a confident speaker & performer, using drama to raise awareness on GBV, early pregnancies & exploitation. Her dream? To become a vet & strengthen her community.
Viola’s story shows the ripple effect of empowerment: when one girl rises, the whole community changes.
