You couldn't have *scripted* a game better tuned to torture Jays fans. A strong hit of easy reward followed by inconsistent and declining reinforcement - but always enough to keep them engaged, with enough promise of a payoff to hold off the sinking feeling? Chef's kiss.
@pdlmma Made an account and sent you a message. To be clear, I'm not just Following You! Seeing this from you was just the last straw that finally made me decide to Do The Chore and make an account.
@pdlmma One of them seems to have the nickname 'Tie Quan", meaning Iron Fist. That might be the most uninspired part of the whole mess, which is really saying something.
@pdlmma This reminds me of something BJ Penn said about Diego Sanchez just before their fight: "Diego's not crazy. He wants you to think he's crazy. But he's really just weird."
@DaveBeaudrie Oh, this account, yeah. But I actually called and wrote in a few times under my former legal name, and those weren't memorable interactions at all. Not even I remember what I asked about.
Hey, @jordanbreen. Bell from Toronto.
I feel corny doing this, but if there's one thing I learned from you it's to be unashamed to be earnest.
But there's not just one thing I learned from you. There's a lot. You got me into hip-hop, K-1, and stick-and-ball sports in general.
@TJDeSantis I genuinely think I might be holding my nose and watching the sport even now if, by some alchemy, the Roundtables and BATBs were still going on to help me keep the stories straight in my head. It's ha-a-ard to parachute into the new era without a guide to those through-lines.
@gulchfall People used to give Rios crap for using this Twitter account to 'pretend to be a woman on the internet'. I was closeted then, and I used to laugh really darkly at the way that lined up. I didn't love it, but I had to either laugh or cry. In general, I choose to laugh.
I miss you.
I doubt you'd remember me even under my old name, but I'll never forget you.
Keep educating and regulating, wherever you are. But do me a favour: Let me know where to send the love letters and credit card numbers from now on, yeah?
I'll take my answer off the air.
Of course, you taught me a ton about MMA as well. There were cards I'd watch just for the BATB. The fights were the prelims to the analysis sometimes.
I miss those days. I miss the passion. I miss being able to watch the sport without feeling like a traitor. (I'm trans.)
Breaks my heart to share the news to the MMA world that Jordan Breen has passed away.
Jordan forgot more about MMA than most of us will ever remember. One of the smartest souls I ever met. His passion was truly unique.
Today would've been his birthday. Will miss you buddy. π
@pdlmma I look forward to that case; it'll almost unavoidably brush up against the question of whether putting a human client on the stand and not thinking too hard about the fact that they'll probably lie is materially different. As a now ex-lawyer, I used to think about that a lot.
