A-Level Biology Teacher and LGBTQ+ Activist studying for a PhD in Education & Social Justice with the University of Lancaster. My opinions are my own. He/Him
Activists are ‘agents of change’. You don’t have to hold a placard to be an activist. We can all be activists in our everyday lives & in our workplaces. Enlighten someone with a different perspective, challenge discrimination & be an ally to anybody who is different to you ✌🏻🏳️🌈
The activist in me needs to strike, the data-driven, control nerd in me can’t- a catch 22 situation the anxious side of my brain can’t beat. This cohort has been through the ringer: covid, no exams, TAGS. I’m w you, either in or out- whatever side of the picket line, I see you 💙
If you or anybody you know delivers LGBTQ+ training to schools and colleges and wants to share your experiences with me, get in touch! Pls RT 🏳️🌈 #LGBTActivism#LGBTEducation#LGBTQIAispowerful
So for #BiologyWeek I constructed a motor neurone (don’t judge!). My students & colleagues made a range of masterpieces from #Darwin & his Tree of Life sketch to a Bowman’s capsule and a cell in mitosis! #Biologybakes#BakeOff#Biology
@MissSDoherty Sharing personal successes and failures. We are only human after all and if they see that in us, they can empathise and strive for their own unique journey!🙌🏻
Wow, what can I say. I fee absolutely overcome with emotion😭 Today I married my partner of 12 years . I’m honoured as a gay man in the UK to exercise my right to marry the person I love & I’m humbled & saddened for those in this world who don’t hold the same privilege as I do 🏳️🌈
🙌🏻We should celebrate people based on their achievements not on societal labels. How else do we expect to achieve a normative society? Usualise successes🙌🏻#STEM #LGBTQ #COVID19
It was an absolute pleasure to be part of this series on LGBTQ+ individuals in education. It has been refreshing, motivating and inspiring to hear the stories of these incredible activists in action and I can’t wait to hear more 🙌🏻🏳️🌈
@LGBTedUK Having existing, strong LGBTQ+ staff and allies who are fighting the corner of LGBTQ+ staff & students already. For new staff this may seem a daunting thought without existing support, but even in schools without these structures, know that supportive organisations are there🙌🏻
@LGBTedUK Integrating stories, whether they are ur own, or of LGBTQ+ individuals who have come before us; for their life achievements (rather than shoehorning them) into ur lessons. This usualises LGBTQ+ people as those w lives, jobs & as society members🏳️🌈
@NBentleyTweets @LGBTedUK I 2nd this 🙌🏻being true to yourself in the classroom is empowering to both you & your students. For you as a practitioner, you can be free. & for your students who identify as LGBTQ+ themselves or those who have family members who are, feel ‘represented’ 🏳️🌈
I am looking for participants for my PhD research regarding LGBT+ activists who provide training to educators in schools, colleges, universities. If you're interested, please see the banner for details! Pls RT. Adam @LGBTedUK@LGBTfdn@activist_just#Education#PHDresearch
In my ever-ongoing quest to become an adult, I decided I needed to provide my dinner guests with serviettes other than the Christmas -themed ones that I normally use throughout the year. What better ones than these rainbow ones! #rainbowflag#Pride2021#adulting
I’ve had a Twitter hiatus; as juggling remote teaching alongside my PhD got the better of me. But the normality of returning to my lovely students in person has done wonders for my soul. I’m taking a moment to appreciate the small things, like my five year old axolotl, Darwin🧬
