I catalyze mission-driven organizations to achieve transformational clarity by aligning their practices with their purpose.
DMin: Semiotics, Church, & Culture
The Creator granted His authority to humans and we chose to rule our own way. Jesus reclaimed all authority to Himself, so any true authority must reflect Jesus...on earth as it is in heaven. If it doesn't, it's not authority, it's an abuse of power. https://t.co/RK2rKQsldt
Churches still operate like cable TV in the 1980s—tune in live or you don’t count. The culture operates like Netflix and YouTube—watch anytime. We're ready for you. https://t.co/quveSjZgwe via @cnieuwhof
Bad governance is the silent killer of many great church missions. What worked 50* years ago has stopped working today. https://t.co/bHBkiwJxxu via @cnieuwhof
"Church buildings are beautiful but temporary dwellings, and what’s in our hands is to present the Gospel as good news, not yesterday’s news.” https://t.co/1uFbxsp2HH
"MY church is different..." is a form of defensiveness. It's a well-disguised way to justify the status quo and mask the fear of change. https://t.co/MfRDLtyEMc via @cnieuwhof
The mission of the church gets accomplished as well or better outside the church walls than it does inside them. https://t.co/FzWRYaZ43F via @cnieuwhof
"Rethinking is more likely when we separate the initial decision makers from the later decision evaluators." - Adam Grant
If you want longevity, make sure you have the ability to continually evaluate your own decisions.
Churches that focus on helping people become whole-hearted followers of Jesus will have to worry less about how the next generation gives and serves than churches that make giving and serving the goal. https://t.co/fpUN7jQRt9 via @cnieuwhof
It took getting out of the environment to recognize it for what it was. This list is eye-opening.
If your organization is stagnant and in conflict, there should zero mystery as to why it isn't growing. https://t.co/XI0es72dkT via @cnieuwhof
"The impossible is the very definition of God. So if you tell me the truth claims of Jesus are “impossible,” I say, “Hallelujah!” It’s only when you cross the border from the possible to the impossible that you’re in God’s territory. Faith does NOT stand to reason." - @lensweet
"The most common source of failure in leadership is diagnostic. People treat adaptive challenges as if they were technical problems.... Adaptive challenges demand a change of people's attitudes, values, and behavior." - Ronald Heifetz
"If a person or brand were to demonstrate weakness in the pillars, like a lack of honesty (they lied to you) or a lack of benevolence (they were exclusively self-interested), you would lose trust in them right away." - Levy
So true.
@xlr231 Technically the "new thing" is the original thing. The church has just gotten so out of step with the way, truth, and life of Jesus that to actually walk in step with Him feels new.
