A maldhari man was pinned down by an astatic lion for almost 1/2 an hour in Garajiya village, Bhavnagar district in Gujarat. He remained calm and a crowd managed to chase away the cat. He survived. Gujarat needs to move some of its extra lions to MP which it does not do despite a Supreme court order, and animals like this need to be removed. The maldharis had complained to the @GujForestDept repeatedly about lions in the area @moefcc@wii_india@CMOGuj@IUCNSULi@WildCRU_Ox@AmyDickman4@AdamHartScience@wildshepherds
Cape buffalo are coming home.
After criminal bushmeat gangs wiped them out, we’re helping restore this iconic species to a landscape where it lived for thousands of years.
But restoring wildlife is only half the mission. We must document this story to show the world that conservation succeeds when wildlife has real value to rural communities.
We’ve already secured much of the funding for Operation Return of the Wild – Phase II. Only $88,000 remains to complete the filming of this historic restoration.
If you believe people and wildlife have a future together, please help us finish this mission.

@HonkIfUrHoary If you’re looking for a podcast that balances discussing predator ecology with how local communities are involved in conservation, we highly recommend the BBC’s Tooth and Claw series, hosted by Deadly Balance author @AdamHartScience: https://t.co/zbmGIu4Rnl
Wouldn't it be good if all the heat and smoke generated over these bans - which successive governments have now realised will do harm and quietly shelved - was devoted to actual conservation?
