I'm excited to announce I'll be launching a new NFT to sell something vague. Due to forthcoming user feedback and the stupidity of the idea, I have decided to preemptively cancel the project. I now hold the WR for the shortest time between announcing NFT garbage and cancelling it
@Runnerguy2489 I'd say my bare minimum is 3 miles. Most days it's 6 miles+. The only exception I've made was when I was on a hiking holiday (30 miles per day), during which I could only squeeze in a pro forma 2 mile run twice. As long as I hit my weekly target, it's all good anyways!
@zoasterino The recent massive surge in energy prices was a sudden break to the world economy, but instead of using it to push much needed climate policy, we get energy subsidies everywhere. Absolutely wasted opportunity.
Didn't see your other tweets in time to respond - sorry!
@zoasterino Yep, the pattern tends to be that there are important lessons learned, changes implemented, chaos prevented for many years, changes undone because they seem unnecessary, and we're back to square one. It's intensely frustrating. Guaranteed to see another banking meltdown like 2008
@zoasterino Now that the world has seen how easily and quickly a pandemic can wreck the world, it's definitely reasonable to expect businesses to prepare for such chaos, e.g. via new insurance funds. Same way that the meltdown in 2008 sparked new safety/risk standards in banking.
@zoasterino I fully agree that businesses should be able to prepare for downturns. Government intervention makes sense when it's not just a few companies going under, but a big chunk of the economy. There was also massive uncertainty around when/if business would ever return to normal.
@zoasterino Main idea behind PPP was to be essentially exactly that public safety net, whilst simultaneously preventing lay-offs and bankruptcies (which massively slow down any economic recovery). Alternative would be to spend the same (or probably more) on unemployment benefits
@zoasterino Forgiveness came into view early on, and was used as a way to encourage small businesses to make use of it (which worked). Otherwise, they might take a big economic hit AND be stuck with debt afterwards. Went WAY overboard with it, though. Due to who held the office, perhaps?
@zoasterino US programs during covid were almost always like a nuclear option. Throw mountains of money around everywhere, and you'll definitely reach those in need. A big portion of the mountain goes to those who don't need it, though. Highly effective, but highly inefficient approach
@zoasterino The numbers for student debt cancellations would be very similar. It's mostly the rich who benefit from the policy, because it's not means tested. Means testing is prohibitively expensive to do, hence not worth it. Does the skewed distribution make it a bad policy, though?
@callin_bull Neuropsychologist not knowing anything about statistics? I'm shocked, truly. Hard to imagine such an esteemed, robust science producing this bad of a paper /s
@TheKotti Have you tried Risen? Lots of enjoyable jank in that one too. In contrast to Gothic, the speedrun's no good, due to a lack of sequence breaks, though, but the main game is a blast
@flickyish Hiking through Abel Tasman national park; hop into a hot spring near Rotorua, Kayaking near any of the sounds, visit a penguin or kiwi shelter, and many more. If you wanna splurge a bit more, do a helicopter ride to a glacier
Blast from the past! Hadn't occurred to me at all that it's been 10 years already. Also been 8 years since my last GDQ, and creeping up on 7 since my last ESA. I should do something about that 😅
