I purposely planted alder buckthorn in a new mixed, native hedgerow in 2021, with the sole intent of boosting brimstone butterfly numbers on the farm. This year, I found their caterpillars happily feeding on the plants π @savebutterflies @BC_WestMids
The allotment is finally looking something like decent. A glut of strawberries incoming!! And the grassland around the newly planted fruit trees is looking great as well. Worth the hard work this winter π
Family of redstart on the farm this evening too! βοΈβοΈ & 3 juv.
@joshual951 Coterill Clough is CWT. Lovely woodland in there π
We've got some hazel plots at Quarry Bank, just the other side of the runway, so will have a look for it.
We're hiring!
Could you help create a resilient future for the Botanical Society, working across our teams to support staff and volunteers?

@TheBrewLady1 Left of centre, blue hat and green-blue coat is my son being held by my wife. The pink hat behind them is my daughter being held by me π
@TheBrewLady1 We were stood by the two metal benches between the dragon and the building behind it in your photo π If you have any other photos looking in the same direction, we are probably in the background!
Great to see such a turn out for the event as well. Even saw two peregrines!!
GSW drumming and willow tit calling as I rolled a trough up a field this morning. Feeling spring like! π
Cows should be arriving later π The first aftermath grazing the fields have had in about 20yrs! Exciting to see how the wildflowers react to the reduced thatch πΈπΌ
Before and after of a hedge I laid today. It'll last longer, be more stock-proof, and provide better habitat for #Wildlife
It won't win any competitions, but it's been a satisfying day π #hedgelaying#NatureFriendlyFarming
This Local Wildlife Site in Crewe was in dire need of action for swifts: 450 pairs down to 50!
Luckily, residents have stepped up!! Look at that density of swift boxes! π Time will tell, but I'm confident we will see breeding pairs returning to this site in future years.
A huge thank you to all our volunteers for helping us to clear the paths of ice and snow so that we can still go ahead with the wassail tonight! The paths will be gritted as well, and there will be soup and hot cider and juice, so wrap up warm and come and join us from 4pm! βοΈ
Great to see this exciting new strategy from our friends @nationaltrust
Looks like there will be plenty of opportunities for us to collaborate and work together even more closely!

I might finally make it to a @xtownorchard#Wassail π hopefully more folk from #Knutsford will be coming along to support this great space. A fantastic chance to tell the story of this group as well @journoontheedge
On Saturday 11th January we will be holding our wassail! There will be homemade soup and mulled cider to tuck in to around the fire, whilst you enjoy dancing, live music and storytelling. You can also join in making a hat - thereβs a prize for the best one! 4pm, free entryπ³β¨
Started prepping a hedge for laying today and coppiced some hazel poles from another hedge for stakes. Flushed 22 snipe from one of the meadows and had a goshawk fly over π
