Just got an email from UC Faculty Senate (our nominal rep body we got instead of a Union) saying that if we withhold final grades, they might withhold our salaries. @uaw2865

TODAY - Academic Workers at @UCLA deliver an Unfair Labor Practice directly to the office of the Dean of the Life Sciences. Their retaliation doesn't scare us. They're retaliating because they're afraid!
1/ So, remember that excange of letters between @laurentianu and the the Ministry of Colleges and Universities just prior to insolvency? The ones that were kept sealed by the judge because they would have been predjudicial to LU? They've been unsealed today.
#FairUCNow#UAWonStrike I'm starting out week 3 strong, bright and early tomorrow at West Crescent. Made some badges, come grab one at the check in table. And also let me know if you have any ideas for future designs!
Good morning from Day 5 on the picket lines. We’re staying strong and remain committed to a #BetterMac

#GradStudents are arguably *the* primary producers of #research output at Canadian universities, and core contributors to the #teaching and #leadership missions of their institutions.
**But how (and how well) are they compensated?**
Let's take a look! A long thread 🧵👇

Talking about accessibility at @uog.
I’m so grateful to you @jbburant for this excellent thread covering the financial hardships graduate students in Canada face.
I pay nearly 9k in tuition as a PhD student. I live in another province. I felt I had to move 1/7
Thrilled to not just see coverage of the #FairUCNow strike in @Nature, but to see them reject the disgraceful claim that graduate researchers only work part time

#ucuRISING#UCUstrike
Here's why I'm striking.
Whilst I was studying for my PhD I had to take on some teaching work to pay the bills. I couldn't afford to rent a flat or even a hotel on what I was paid. So for 2 years I slept on the library floor every night before lectures
@uc_faculty@UofCalifornia
I want to speak to faculty who feel hurt, blindsided, and angry about the #FairUCNow strike. Faculty are most immediately hurt by these strikes, and it can feel unfair especially for those who have spent their career trying to make grad ed better.
Across the UC, 48,000 unionized academic workers voted to authorize a strike with 98% support. Many of us will be gone in a year or so. We won't benefit. We will miss wages. Our research (which we care about as much as you do) will be held up.
We aren't doing this to hurt you.
My union is on strike.
My previous union is on strike.
My union before that just had to threaten a strike to win a new contract.
My first union is still fighting for recognition.
This is academic labor today.
Seems like universities could use better leadership.
