Is it true that the Somali cabinet approved a law requiring political associations to pay a registration fee of one hundred thousand US dollars?

$100, 000. Really?

This is both unfair and misguided.

This exorbitant fee is an exclusionary tactic, effectively blocking Somalia’s youth, who make up over 80% of the population, from organizing themselves.

Unlike entrenched politicians who may secure $100,000 from external sources or dubious dealings, #Somalia’s youth and their aspiring leaders cannot afford such money and should not accept these roadblocks.

BREAKING: Somalia cabinet approves Defense and Economic Cooperation Agreement with Turkey, Wednesday.

Under the agreement Turkey will build, train and equip Somali navy. The agreement also boosts martime resources and blue economy.

Somalia PM @HamzaAbdiBarre said the agreement removes “any fears of terrorism, piracy, illegal fishing, toxic dumping and any external violations or threats” to Somalia’s sea.

@HamzaAbdiBarre described Turkey as “true and reliable brother.”

When faced with danger, Somalia is not alone and not with out a brother, @HamzaAbdiBarre said.

The agreement was signed in Turkey on February 8. It comes amid increasing tension between Somalia and Ethiopia following last month’s signing of an MoU by Ethiopia and Somaliland, which Somalia condemned as a violation of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Ambassador Macharia, you are overreaching here in your attempt to disparage the Somali community. In over 60 years of so called independence, the Northern Frontier District as it were constituted more than 1/3 of Kenya, till this very day there is virtually no working social services, abysmal infrastructure, marginalization, underdevelopment, massacres, rapes, tortures & enforced disappearances— which were at their height in the government you served, you should be the last one to talk about subjugation as you lack any substantial moral high ground in this matter.

When Uhuru, the worst president in the modern history of Kenya gave 30,000 title deeds to Kikuyu squatters in Lamu while the natives got less than a 1000 deeds, was he empowering your tribesmen or Somalis? Why did he vehemently push for a roll back on devolution? Why did he ignore the Ndung’u report on land reforms? Do other Kenyans belong to him & his family?

More than half of the Kenya’s tax revenue is collected in Nairobi, as Somalis, I believe we disproportionately contributed to the said economy; we are entitled to our decent piece of the pie we partly baked. We are guests of no one here, we are landowners here not some invaders like you try to paint us!

No amount of grandstanding will help you cover the pathetic and shallow foreign policies you spearheaded. Kenya was the region’s helper in South Sudan’s independence & Somalia’s reconciliation but while you served no one in the region respected Kenya. You ran interference in Somalia, helped TPLF outlaws in Ethiopia, meddled in DRC— you left the ministry worse than you found it!

Education from primary school to university is free, and healthcare is free for everyone. The country is also very safe and secure, better than any other country in Africa. They have chosen not to accept food aid to avoid relying on others. The literacy rate in Eritrea is one of the highest in Africa. When it comes to democracy, who said that it's the only way to achieve development? China has refused to adopt Western-style democracy and has become a strong economic power. As for dictatorships, some people refer to leaders like Erdogan in Turkey, Putin in Russia, and Xi in China as dictators. But let's take a break from these labels. The era of Western media dominating the world is ending, thanks to social media.

Somalis, registering 130,000+, are the 2nd largest African ethnic group in US. Nigeria has about 380,000 as opposed to 308,000 Ethiopia representing 10+ ethnic groups. If only Somalis were organized, they would have been a force to reckon with. But they have a sever clan curse.
