Glad to be on the same panel on ‘Building Trust across Borders’ with my brother Ambassador Fred Ngoga @NgogaFred, one of the most knowledgeable security experts in the Region. We discussed security trends and risks of the Greater Horn of Africa, on the sidelines of the Global Trust Summit @GTSummit2026 in Nairobi, Kenya.

His Excellency was Burundian Ambassador, and we had a merry time reminiscing about my experience with the AMISOM Burundian Contingent in HirShabelle, some of whom provided presidential compound security during my tenure as President in Jowhar.

I share my goodwill and eternal gratitude towards the Burundian Contingent in Jowhar with every Burundian I meet, and His Excellency was no exception!

Ambassador Jabril has extensive experience in reconciliation, state building, and community participation. The visit underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation between Türkiye and IGAD in support of regional peace, stability, and development.

Glad to witness as H.E. Hüseyin Özdemir, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Djibouti, visited the IGAD Secretariat and presented his letter of accreditation to IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. @DrWorkneh.

Turkiye is an important partner for IGAD and its Member States, and we took the opportunity to discuss ways of strengthening the partnership.
