Déjà vu all over again. All sides must exercise maximum restraint and ensure that the intended protest proceeds peacefully. Escalation of such scale, despite ugly and deadly, may pave the way for a middle ground settlement. An inclusive dialogue must proceed as matter of urgency
Mogadishu Needs Peace
The conflict between the government of President @HassanSMohamud and opposition forces has no military solution.
Tonight, gunfire is raging near the residences of former President @HESharifShAhmed and former Prime Minister @HassanAKhaire. This is unacceptable, and it is the responsibility of @HassanSMohamud and @HamzaAbdiBarre to de-escalate.
They must also accept that their term has ended and that they must negotiate with the opposition, just as President Mohamud demanded and secured in 2021/2022 when the mandate of his predecessor, former President @M_Farmaajo, ended.
The worst thing a man can do is try to impose on others what he himself refused to accept, particularly when it was not long ago and remains fresh in everyone’s mind.
We know that tomorrow, or within a week’s time, Western diplomats in Mogadishu and their capitals will threaten these politicians and their henchmen with sanctions, and suddenly everyone will rediscover the virtues of mediation, compromise, and consensus.
Sadly, that realization will come only after blood has been shed and young Somali boys have died in a conflict that was both unnecessary and avoidable.
The irony is that Somalia has seen this irrationality before.
On 25 April 2021, amid the crisis triggered by the extension of President Farmaajo’s mandate, former President @HassanSMohamud accused government forces of attacking his residence and warned about the dangers of politicizing security. He declared that Farmaajo was responsible for the consequences. (See the reporting by the Turkish newspaper Daily Sabah.

Tonight, many of the same accusations are being made by president HSM’s former political peers, who have now become his opponents.
That is precisely why this crisis must be resolved through negotiation, compromise, and consensus before more Somali lives are lost.
I got a peer-reviewed, original theory on the nexus between climate change, corruption, and migration published today in a prestigious international journal. Modest reaction.
I’m certain that if I’d slandered a politician and his family members or trashed a major religion, God forbid, the internet would have exploded.
That tells you everything about how ailing our public discourse is. #ForTheRecord

Hon. @Odowaa is someone I have known for over three decades. Although we stood on different sides, he within the ruling party and I in the opposition, I have always regarded him as a man of principle.
Today, through his decision to resign from the position of Secretary General and his membership in the ruling Justice and Solidarity Party, he has reaffirmed that integrity and reputation stand above position and office. His decision reflects courage, clarity, and a profound sense of responsibility.
I commend my longtime friend for making a principled and courageous choice. In a political climate where silence is often rewarded and truth comes at a cost, choosing conviction over convenience is never easy.
This is not just a personal step it is a moral statement. It reminds us that leadership is not about clinging to office, but about standing firm on values—even when it means walking away.
I hope others will find the courage and conviction to act in accordance with their conscience. One cannot claim true political leadership without placing principle above personal interest.
Moments like these are when respect and credibility are earned when it becomes clear that values, not positions, define leadership. We stand at a critical political crossroads, where the future direction of leadership will be shaped.
#Somalia: Xoghayihii-guud ee xisbiga xukuumadda Federaalka ee JSP, Xildhibaan Cabdiraxmaan Odowaa ayaa si rasmi ah u shaaciyey in uu ka tegey xisbigaasi, isaga oo sheegey in uu ka soo horjeedo; Dhammaystirka Dastuurka & Doorashooyinka qof & cod oo uu sheegey in aan loo dhammayn
Waa mas'uulkii labaad oo ka taga JSP ka dib Mw Laftagareen oo ahaa ku-xigeen.
Today, my dear friend and senior MP @Odowaa resigned from his position as a Secretary General of the ruling party JSP, citing fundamental disagreements with President @HassanSMohamud on key policy issues, including federalism, elections, constitutional review and civil rights. This comes only days after the Deputy Chairman of the party and President of Southwest State of #Somalia @Laftagareen also resigned. The exodus from the ruling party is the strongest sign that the empire built over the last four years is collapsing, under the weight of its sheer corruption and nepotism.

Xaqsoor Party welcomes the communiqué issued by the Conference for the Defense of the Constitution, held on February 27 in Mogadishu.
Xaqsoor Party has repeatedly reiterated its position regarding the unlawful amendments that the Somali government is making to the Provisional Constitution.
The Constitution that Somalis provisionally adopted is the one approved in 2012. Any change made to that Constitution completely disregards the procedures clearly outlined in the lawful constitutional framework.
Furthermore, Xaqsoor Party concurs with the Conference for the Defense of the Constitution that the constitutional term of Somalia’s Parliament ends on April 14, and that of the President ends on May 15, 2026.
On the other hand, Xaqsoor Party adds its voice to the call for the immediate holding of elections in the Federal Member States whose terms have expired, in accordance with the legitimate 2012 Constitution.
Finally, Xaqsoor Party welcomes the call for the upcoming national conference intended to deliberate on how to rescue the country from the political uncertainty.

Since @TheVillaSomalia described its decision as 'UNFORTUNATE,' that carries no less weight than a 'regret' or a full apology — if it isn't weightier. Time to move on!
