"Reeves has nothing to show for her time in No 11 apart from boarded-up shops, a looming debt crisis & surging unemployment, especially for young people struggling to start their careers," notes @mattlynnwriter in an excellent @Telegraph requiem for the failed Chancellor.
"The first woman at No 11 doomed herself with a catastrophic first Budget. Once that started to unravel, it was impossible for her to recover – and she will depart with a reputation in ruins".
"Instead of reversing course, as she could have, Reeves doubled down with a farcical second Budget that involved dozens of leaked tax rises, an emergency press conference to announce she was breaking a manifesto pledge, followed by a quick reversal, before settling on substantial rises in business rates that turned into yet another punishment-beating for private enterprise".
"For all her supposed economic expertise, Reeves had never figured out that taxes impact the way we behave, or that government borrowing crowds out the private sector." Indeed.
Why are they smiling?
The PM’s resigned in disgrace, and they’re grinning like they’ve won something.
Two years. That’s all it took Labour to break the economy, hollow out our defence, and repeatedly drown in scandal.
Britain deserves better than a government that fails upward.
You can cross your fingers all you want.
You are still a Member of the British Parliament, under a British monarch.
If you hate it that much, don’t take your seat like Sinn Fein.
"Labour is dangerously deluded if it thinks Andy Burnham can save Britain."
Labour's worldview, and Burnham's, is disastrously unsuited to solving Britain's actual problems.

See Rachel managed to have her morning run but couldn’t stand and support Starmer in Downing Street as he resigned.
She did manage to attend the staging of a mass selfie with Andy Burnham in Westminster Hall though.
Rachel is trying to run from her own record isn’t she.
But no amount of networking can erase reality.
Her legacy is fully entwined with Starmer’s disastrous premiership.
As Chancellor, she made the wrong choices every time , stifling growth and leaving a trail of terrible economic decisions.
Now, she is desperately trying to erase the past and secure her future under Burnham.
Rumours are that she’s on the chopping block at the Treasury.
Let’s hope that’s true.
Starmer's resignation speech shows why he failed.
- Not one word on rising unemployment
- No mention of government debt having risen by £260 billion since 2024
And zero remorse or apology to farmers, small businesses, Chagossians or army veterans whom he so badly betrayed.
Bracing for Labour’s resignation honours, which the utterly deceitful Keir Starmer promised he would never hand out. Expect an extensive group of cronies every bit as grim as the likes of ‘non-doctor’ Baroness Ann Limb and his suspended former Head of Comms Lord Matthew Doyle.
The SNP must implement the court ruling now.
After years of wasting taxpayers' money, losing in court and attacking the women who challenged them, ministers should stop looking for loopholes and start obeying the law.
Women’s prisons are for women. The Supreme Court has ruled. The Court of Session has ruled. The argument is over.
The SNP got this wrong. It should implement the judgment immediately and apologise. https://t.co/jtA8EKkeFo
Sir Keir Starmer has resigned as Prime Minister.
He has led the most authoritarian government in more than a generation, unleashing an unprecedented assault on free speech. Indeed, he seems determined to make social media censorship his legacy.
In the process, he has proved to be an effective recruiting sergeant for the Free Speech Union, with our membership growing from 14,000 at the time of the last General Election to more than 45,000 today.
But there is little reason to believe things will improve under his likely successor, Andy Burnham.
It is believed that the former MP for Makerfield and former head of Labour Together, Josh Simons, who resigned so Burnham could fight a by-election, is set for a plum job at the heart of Downing Street. The Free Speech Union recently exposed Labour’s ‘misinformation mafia’ that Simons led, targeting journalists and others that challenged Starmer’s technocratic managerialism. We anticipate an escalation in Labour’s efforts to suppress dissenting speech on social media in the forthcoming Representation of the People Bill, assuming Burnham doesn’t abandon the legislative programme outlined in the King’s Speech.
Burnham is also keen on bringing forward a ‘fully trans-inclusive’ ban on ‘conversion therapy’, which may mean criminalising parents who ‘misgender’ their confused adolescent children or who withhold consent from their children embarking on irreversible medical pathways.
No doubt there will be numerous other assaults on free speech which we’ll be keeping a close eye on.
Never forget that Keir Starmer recognised a “Palestinian State” while there were still hostages trapped in Hamas’ terror tunnels and Hamas still rule Gaza.
He rewarded hostage taking and terrorism
Utterly disgraceful & disrespectful behaviour from the new SNP MP for Arbroath & Broughty Ferry. She added a preamble to the loyal oath indicating she didn’t accept it, then read the actual words holding up crossed fingers, presumably to signify she didn’t believe it. Awful.
Starmer's ultimate problem was that 9 million votes meant his authority was ocean wide and a puddle deep
Andy Burnham doesn't have 9m votes
He has 24 thousand and a mere 9 thousand majority
He has no legitimacy from day 1.
The Court of Session says the policy is unlawful.
The Supreme Court says sex means biological sex.
Yet John Swinney still won't change course.
Why is he allowed to get away with it?
Does nobody think it’s just the tiniest bit weird that even Labour MPs think there is nobody - not one person - elected in 2024 who would make a competent PM? Not one.
