The finances across the #EFL and League One are becoming more and more concerning. Owners/shareholders are injecting clubs with significant funds with little to no likelihood of any return. The need for an IFR and interjection is evident.
Insightful as ever by @KieranMaguire
We are still awaiting results from Rotherham and Huddersfield, but League One clubs between them have managed to accumulate over £1 billion pounds in losses over the years for the first time since records began, so here is a deep(ish) dive into the finances for 2024/25
The FA have reported a £10.6m profit for the 2024/25 season (down from £49.65m profit from the previous year). This financial year saw the Lionesses’ EURO 2025 victory against Spain. #england#fa
The FA have released annual information regarding the agent payments from football clubs. Below shows the total payments #EFL League One clubs have made between 4 Feb 2025 and 2 Feb 2026, which includes #WAFC paying £283,506. Total payments amount to over £14m for the year.
@JJLos3Amigos@ForeverWAFC I believe the stadium did operate at a loss yes, but within the last few years we have seen vast improvements of its use on non-matchdays such as corporate events etc., so does have great potential to bring in significant revenue in any case #wafc
#wafc have now published their financial information for the 2024/25 season, reporting a £397k loss after a significant £7.5m profit on player sales. This would be the culmination of selling Charlie Hughes, Thelo Aasgaard and Josh Stones.

Another significant point is that the balance sheet shows that the stadium is no longer owned by the club, which has led to losses in revenue from stadium hires and rental income. #wafc
For comparison against other clubs competing against #wafc in 24/25
Reading #readingfc: £3.8m loss after a £9.5m profit on player sales, 7th place finish
Burton Albion #BAFC: £8.3m loss, 20th place finish
Barnsley #barnsleyfc £6.6m loss, 12th place finish
The Independent Football Regulator has today outlined its new licensing regime, a framework designed to pull clubs back from the financial “cliff edge” and build a more secure and stable future for the 116 clubs in the English football pyramid.
Interesting read. Also worth noting that Wigan Athletic A.F.C Limited’s accounts for 24/25 are due by the end of the month, which will help paint a better picture between the two businesses. #wafc
Wigan Sporting Events Limited have released their first set of financial accounts covering the period of June 7th 2024 - June 30th 2025.

@luckymanian@AlexJPMiller Hi Ian, the administrators are required to do this so that any correspondence can be sent to them directly. It’s a standard procedure so no concerns there!
The administrators’ proposals have now been submitted and will be available in the coming days #SWFC. @AlexJPMiller has already covered this incredibly.
