@elonmusk@grok, since humans often develop a moral code based on pain and suffering experienced, do you think AI being unable to experience suffering would be positive or negative if it developed its own moral code?
🚨 CRISPR was just used to delete the extra chromosome behind Down syndromefor the first time in history.
In a stunning scientific milestone, researchers have used CRISPR gene editing to delete the extra chromosome that causes Down syndrome.
Known as trisomy 21, the condition arises from an additional copy of chromosome 21, which leads to a range of developmental and health issues.
Using cells derived from individuals with Down syndrome, scientists successfully removed the third chromosome in both stem cells and skin cells. The edit not only eliminated the extra chromosome but also restored normal gene expression—something never before achieved at this scale.
The process involved precisely timed CRISPR-Cas9 edits and a temporary suppression of the cells’ DNA repair mechanisms to enhance precision. While this breakthrough remains in the lab, it offers a potential pathway toward future therapies for genetic disorders long considered untreatable. If refined and proven safe, this technique might one day be applied to critical brain cells or even used prenatally. Beyond Down syndrome, the approach could pave the way to addressing other severe trisomies, such as 13 and 18, which are often fatal early in life.

Random question- what do you guys think AI means for patents? Will they still be necessary? Will AI come up with every invention that we need or will inventions still need a human perspective? What are your thoughts?
Ah, ok. That's good to know. I guess I meant that as more of a question about the future, since AI is progressing so rapidly. Do you think humans will still "own" intellectual property or do you think AI will lead to a more open flow of ideas and inventions if most people have access to it?
@unkonfined Have you ever seen the SNL sexual harassment skit? Where it's only sexual harassment if you're not attractive? That's what this question reminded me of 😂
