DEAR RUFAI OSENI, CONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR AWARD โ BUT PLEASE, LET YOUR EGO REST SMALL! ๐
Rufai, nobody is denying you the right to celebrate your award. Congratulations on being recognised as Best Broadcaster of the Year.
But must every criticism of you be interpreted as envy? Must every disagreement become evidence that somebody is jealous of your success?
My brother, criticism is not envy, disagreement is not hatred, and an award is not a certificate of infallibility!
You brought the legendary Dele Giwa into your celebration, suggesting that journalists were envious of him because he did not attend journalism school.
Rufai, please understand something: Dele Giwa's reputation was built on his body of work, editorial courage, reporting and contribution to investigative journalism. He did not become a legend simply because people allegedly envied him.
Dele Giwa gave journalism a legacy. You cannot borrow that legacy to silence your critics.
And since you are suddenly counting awards, let me introduce you to someone whose professional journey started long before your latest trophy arrived.
HON. ABIKE DABIRI-EREWA!
Before you became a familiar face on morning television, Abike had already made her mark on NTA's Newsline, won major journalism awards, served three terms in the National Assembly and moved into public service.
Her professional record includes hundreds of honours and recognitions spanning journalism, humanitarian advocacy, legislative service and diaspora engagement.
Yet you want to make one broadcasting award sound like the discovery of journalism itself?
Rufai, when somebody has a shelf full of trophies, she doesn't need to climb on a table every morning to announce that she is accomplished.
Awards should recognise your work, not become weapons against everyone who questions it.
You thanked God for the award. Beautiful! But remember that humility is also a virtue worth practising.
The real test of a broadcaster is not how loudly he celebrates recognition. It is how fairly he treats people, how carefully he verifies allegations and how gracefully he accepts correction.
Congratulations once again, Rufai. Enjoy your award. But please remember: the microphone is not a throne, the studio is not a kingdom, and criticism is not treason. ๐

When I posted earlier today that Subsidy is gone forever, some doubted including some progressive friends who did so silently.
But if there is one thing I can boast of, it's my ability to cut through the noise and analyse what is before me.
And it's shocking that a lot of people really failed to understand what yesterday's press conference by the Minister of Finance @taiwoyedele was all about.
To be clear, the MAJOR takeaway was PRICE MODULATION!
Discount by NNPCL Retail is a side note and that is purely a commercial decision by NNPCL, which before now offered a N66 per litre discount on their own to celebrate Nigeria's 66th independence just like any commercial venture would do.
I'm glad that the Finance Minister this night explained in layman's language that this NNPCL discount is NOT subsidy.
Reduction in price by a single petrol seller DOES NOT amount to subsidy.
Subsidy is when you sell below your cost price with someone paying the balance.
In the case of NNPCL Retail, they are selling at the cost price. Mind you NNPCL Retail get their stock from Dangote Refinery and Dangote is selling to them at market price with his own profit margin on top. So, NNPCL is simply foregoing their PROFIT! How on earth is this subsidy?
I will take my time and write an Explainer on the major element that Nigerians should be talking about - PRICE MODULATION - and why it's very important for us considering how quickly prices of consumer goods rice in Nigeria whenever fuel prices go up due to crude oil prices going up and how slowly these same commodity prices come down even when crude oil prices begin to fall sharply.
I will also later come at the ignorant Atiku, Obi and their supporters who for one reason or the other seem not to understand this simple distinction and are urinating all over social media that subsidy is back.
Who still remembers the first time Ronaldo tried to take Messi's spot.๐๐

This lady is calling out these brands of drinks on TikTok. This is why there's a high rise in kidney diseases. Pls be careful what you give your kids and what you also consume. I am glad she didn't hide the names of these products.
