Huge fan of SS Clay Grady (@HokiesBaseball). Carved out an every day role at the top of the lineup as a true Freshman and hit .307/.386/.433 with 10 XBH and 34 RBIs.
Compact, athletic build at 5'9" and 170-lbs. Slightly open front side in the box with a medium-high handset. Small load and has a noticeable leg kick, but he quiets it down in 2-strike counts.
Twitchy operation with above average hand speed. Does a nice job creating loft and leverage to the pull side. Love how he finishes his swing (check out how he rotates) and action in his lower-half.
Grady's has an advanced feel for the barrel and plus bat-to-ball skills. Last year had a 93% IZ contact rate, including 93% and 94% against FB and SL, respectively. Solid approach. Hit tool is above average and he has a little bit of thump to the pull side.
Where Grady really shines is on the dirt. Silky smooth, athletic actions. Light on his feet, plenty of range to both his glove side and up the middle, fantastic internal clock. Comfortable attacking the baseball and throwing on the run - and from multiple arm slots. "I want the ball!" mentality. Has a knack for making big plays in big spots. Arm is a 55, defense is a 60. Will stick at the position professionally.
Grady this year is in line for another big season and figures to be in strong consideration for a spot on Team USA's Collegiate National Team. Not eligible until 2025, but profiles as a 2nd-4th round pick.
C.J. Stroud says several players around the NFL have reached out to express how much they appreciate his mentions of God and expressing his love for Jesus Christ.
“I’m not doing it to look cool. I’m doing it because that’s what God called me to do.”
