Google’s long awaited Gemini 4 Argon is here, with claims of frontier performance across coding, finance, legal work and video understanding. But the more interesting bit: Google is restricting access for now to cybersecurity specialists while it tests safeguards.

The AI race is increasingly becoming a race between capability and control.

Woke up to the terrible news of NK kurup (Kurup saab), former Mumbai chief of bureau and Sr Associate Editor, of @businessline , passing away. He was my first boss and mentor in journalism and later a neighbour at the famed Kasturi Buildings (that's another story altogether) owned by The Hindu group in Mumbai. Literally, I owe my headstart in the news media to him in more ways than one.
Born in Pandalam, Kerala, Kurup saab (or Mr K as some of the youngsters in the bureau used to call him) built a distinguished career in business journalism. He was known for his sharp editorial judgment, integrity and unassuming mentorship of younger journalists. Before joining the Hindu group, he worked with the Economic Times and Financial Express. He built a reputation as one of the best shipping correspondents in the country, before extending his leadership to BFSI.
Kurup saab’s funeral will be held at 11:30 am in Pandalam, Kerala tomorrow. Heartfelt condolences to his wife, Sukhada Kurup; his son, Sarat Kurup; and his daughter-in-law, Urvashi Negi.
Too many memories and anecdotes to share of Kurup saab and how he was more than a boss. But today’s not the day. One thing is for sure: they don’t make them like Kurup saab anymore. He was thorough gentleman.
May the Lord grant Kurup Saab's soul eternal peace and strength to his family to bear the loss.

Super intelligence vs Ubiquitous intelligence?

As global leaders like @realDonaldTrump rethink the label, Zoho’s @svembu is embedding it everywhere with affordable, privacy-first tools like Zia Chat. Read story by @sweth13.

What if India’s biggest semiconductor, electronics and telecom events came together under one umbrella?
At #SEMICONIndia2026, India Semiconductor Mission CEO Amitesh Kumar Sinha floated exactly that.
SEMICON India. Bharat Electronics Manufacturing and Export Summit. India Mobile Congress.
Same city. Same broad location. Separate identities.
The idea: make it easier for companies to meet partners and see how chips, electronics and telecom connect.
The panel, made up of industry association leaders, broadly backed this direction. @SemiconIndia

“Capacity can be financed. Capability has to be earned.”
Avalanche Thinking founder and former @CoherentCorp CEO Chuck Mattera says India can finance fabs, but building the materials expertise and manufacturing know-how behind them takes years.
His example: indium phosphide, a key material for high-speed optical components used in AI data centres. Mattera says substrate prices have risen 3-4X over the past year as AI infrastructure demand surged, exposing how quickly a specialised material can become a bottleneck.

India’s semiconductor build-out is a “20-year journey”, says L&T Semiconductor Technologies CEO Sandeep Kumar.
Where is India strong today?
• Digital and compute: strong
• Analogue and mixed signal: strong
• RF: reasonably placed
But Kumar said India still needs to build depth in system architecture, high-power semiconductors, memory, optics and manufacturing.
He also offered an interesting window into the economics of chips: semiconductor companies can make 50–70% gross margins, but much of that money has to go straight back into developing the next generation of products.
“You make a lot of money on the product, but then you have to pour that money back into developing the next product.”
His larger point: India’s semiconductor ambitions will require sustained capability-building, differentiated products and hundreds of companies, rather than a handful of big players. #Semicon2026

Nannie Torries, General Manager at @kaynessemicon put up this useful snapshot at SEMICON India 2026 of where 12 ISM-backed semiconductor projects stand today. #Semicon2026 @YourStoryCo

Tokyo Electron (@TokyoElectron_J) plans to set up a semiconductor training centre in Gujarat next year, in partnership with the Japanese government. The Japanese chip-equipment giant says India will need a larger pool of fab and equipment engineers as its semiconductor manufacturing base expands. “We will continue to work together with India and contribute to the growth of its semiconductor ecosystem and the realisation of Make in India. I will do my best,”
Toshiki Kawai, Tokyo Electron president and CEO, said at #SEMICONIndia2026. @YourStoryCo

A single semiconductor chip can require more than 500 specialty chemicals and 50 gases, some at purity levels above 99.999%.
To put that in perspective, @Merck_Elec CEO Benjamin Hein says that is like finding a small key anywhere across Delhi.
India’s chip push will depend as much on materials and supply chains as on fabs. #SEMICONIndia2026 @YourStoryCo

@satvacart, an early entrant in Indian e-grocery, is bowing out gracefully. I am pretty sure whatever founder @rahulhsaxena tackles next will be nothing short of epic. Wishing Rahul and the good folks @ Satvacart all the very best for their next play. https://t.co/ctGWnV7V0L

@addepalli True that. But the challenge is you are in a new place and haven't purchased anything from a nearby shop. But yes, there are good shopkeepers everywhere...

Me thinks it is time to bring back PCOs at public places for public good. Not as relics of another era. But as basic safety infrastructure. One might run out of mobile battery. One might be an international traveller whose phone refuses to work on roaming. (continued in comments)
