New pre-print! iPSCs are an excellent model for cortical development, but require thorough understanding of what is produced in a dish. @PHDMonstR and I (@HKilpinen lab) profiled developing neurons w/ Cell Painting & gene expression for the first time🧠1/6

Our spatiotemporal atlas of the human midbrain is finally out! Huge collaborative effort with the @UCLchildhealth crew: Dimitri Budinger, @G_T_Hall and Serena Barral. Huge thanks to all PIs involved: Manju Kurian, @scastesparraka & @HKilpinen !

Overall, we found that while complementing gene expression with cell morphology is informative of developmental mechanisms, adapting Cell Painting to neurons would improve the resolution of these cellular phenotypes. 6/6

We identified donor-specific effects in inhibitory neuron production spanning both assays, implicating endoplasmic reticulum and ribosome-linked function in excitatory vs inhibitory cell fate decisions. 5/6
Leaving #BoG23 with a lot of new connections, some great memories and a renewed passion and excitement for the work I do! Thanks @cshlmeetings for a great conference!
Great start to day 2 at #BoG23 with the single cell and developmental biology session! I'm excited to present 'A single cell atlas of cortical neurodevelopment in vitro' soon, stay tuned!
