t’s the University Boat Race today 🚣
Who will choose the Middlesex or Surrey Bank?
For those who have a problem remembering the historic boundary between these two great counties, which is the same today as it was over a thousand years ago, might find this map helpful 🌞

Stop Press Cllr Robert Evans: Delighted to report that Surrey County Council accepted my motion (32 votes to 8 with 26 abstentions!) to ask that the new unitary authority be named West Surrey & South Middlesex.Let’s see what happens now! @SpelthorneBC@SurreyCouncil@JacobPanons
@alexgurteen@THERussellGrant@LincolnJopp@_lewiscocking@MiddxHeritage@southmiddlesex I'm not sure where you're from or where you live Alex but I was born in the county of Middlesex, still live in the county of Middlesex and still write Middlesex as part of my address. There are thousands upon thousands of us who want the name preserved this way, convoluted or not
Thank you for your opinion, Alex, but if you lived in South Middlesex you’d understand it’s not a vocal minority but far, far more deep-rooted sense of belonging. It’s also worth noting that Middlesex has existed from the 7th Century and was first documented in 704 AD and the real County should not be confused with Middlesex County Council which was a local authority from 1889 to 1965: it only covered 2/3rds of the actual County of Middlesex.
I’m mystified as to your vehement opposition to a name that reflects the true identity and heritage of a county north of the Thames that has Saxon roots. There are much longer or, in your words, convoluted names for a local authority such as Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, for instance.
The name only applies to the West Surrey unitary and not East Surrey unitary which is which is Epsom & Ewell, Elmbridge, Tandridge and Reigate (& Banstead) three historic Surrey hundred names, Mole Valley which covers no part of Middlesex whereas West Surrey does. I’m respectful of your thoughts and thank you for taking the trouble of posting your opinion.

Morning folks!
I had such a nice surprise today from my @Middlesex_CCC pal in @StainesMiddx
Take no notice of the pic it was from a long time ago when was working the late great Steve Wright.
Please have a read and if you can support our drive to ensure our English local Saxon history and British county identity is restored in local government areas for posterity please follow: @southmiddlesex@middxheritage@britishcounties
Thank you very much 🌞
