@theDWshow I’m flat that an era that promised so much has ended like this. So much for the Doctor Who multiverse. Writing, talent unrest, exec interference, or tired IP? Maybe all factors? But still, in the right hands it’s an amazing show (“Produced by Dave and Rob” has a nice ring to it)
@theDWshow I’m disappointed about Xmas special. Could’ve ended with an in-universe reset for a fresh start. (And cleaned up the Bille Piper factor). Bold move for RTD to return to Who in the first place. But his style is possibly better suited to other things, these days.
@TheGeeksHandbag@bigblueboxpcast You guys make some really good points here. Disney CGI expectations, questionable Doctor characterisation and the production disrespecting much loved characters. Great insights. 🙏👍
@David_Kitchen_@theDWshow Also, wondering if RTD has come out with a statement thanking fans and Gatwa post season? I’m sure he probably has but I haven’t seen it.
@David_Kitchen_@theDWshow In an era where audiences have been conditioned to expect two years between many big budget shows’ seasons, if it came back with just a Christmas ep in 2026 that would feel positively speedy! But I’m in the camp that it needs a rest and another soft reboot to cleanse the palate.
@theDWshow I suspect (as others have said) RTD’s original plan was to make Ruby a mother given her backstory, but simply tacking it onto Belinda’s story instead, was the part that felt out of whack to me.
@theDWshow RTD had to deal with a rewrite on Ruby and then a rewrite on the Doctor. Makes me wonder if the original ideas were better before they were compromised. As a salvage job, it wasn’t a train wreck. But seems odd to claim THIS was his great vision all along.
@theDWshow However, loved seeing Jodie. FX were good. And I think RTD is a great showrunner, but needs more writers working for him and questioning the logic of scripts, Doctor characterisation and character arcs. It can’t all be “vibes” if the plot holes and inconsistencies yank us out.
@theDWshow For us to buy into the ending, we *really* needed to care about Poppy but they didn’t get us invested.
Characters were wasted. Decades old lore thrown up for new audiences, only to be dispensed with in mins.
Doctor went from torture to joy. Regen a stop gap till new casting.
@theDWshow@David_Kitchen_ A soup sandwich! Yikes. But I can’t disagree. Hope to be pleasantly surprised. A dud of a finale might leave a bad taste in people’s mouths during a potential hiatus. But maybe it’ll be amazing and leave people wanting more.
@theDWshow I feel like the mood among fans is more nervous than excited, right now. Especially after last year. How are you and @David_Kitchen_ feeling? There’s a lot to tie up. Maybe too much? If the finale isn’t great, how does that affect Doctor Who’s future prospects? 🤞
@theDWshow I’m usually similar to you guys but I loved this episode! It was epic, visual and dramatic. Agree there were plot holes but it made more sense to me and the fam than last week’s. Wasn’t sure about evil Doctor tho. Hope that’s given solid justification. Thanks for speedy review!
