@dr_duchesne A man wrote the book and a man endorsed him, but you called it "womanish" because his theory is simple minded and indulgent. Could you not just say his theory was simple minded and unscholarly without calling it "womanish?" He is a man and wrote the book. No women were involved.
I'm gobsmacked. Rachel came back after 14 years. She was playing the best game she's ever played. She made it to jury without ever touching the block. She was the FRONTRUNNER. Gone. No eviction vote. No Blockbuster. No exit interview. Due to a twist. Fuck this awful show. #bb27
At risk of getting yeeted for QRTing the King, I think his post here gets to the very crux of the debate.
When someone invokes Nikola Tesla as an example of why immigration is good, they are communicating a belief that immigration can uniformly produce the same results…
As though the immigrant himself matters less than the process, or that the process itself contributes to the formative development of the immigrant.
Immigration is not responsible for Nikola Tesla's greatness. Nikola Tesla was a genius before he got to the US, and would have been a genius had he never went (and btw, he notably wrote about how much he regretted migrating to the US instead of Russia).
Crediting immigration or even magic American soil for Nikola Tesla is an easy way of avoiding the more offensive fact that he, like most great immigrants, was a very specific product of his birth, upbringing, culture, values, resources, genetics, and zeitgeist as an inimitable whole.
You can meatgrind 100,000 computer programers from Bangalore through the same process all you want, they are not and will never be Teslas.
What so many on the "techright" seem to be doing right now is a sort of Ship of Theseus thought experiment but instead of Theseus' ship to Delos, it's a boat to Ellis Island with Nikola Tesla on it.
Or, perhaps better stated, it’s like a gambling addiction.
Their fingers are bloody and raw after rubbing through millions of scratchcards without a penny in winnings but they can’t stop because they haven’t hit the jackpot yet and WHAT IF.
They can’t pull the plug on this insurmountably flawed system because WHAT IF the next Nikola Tesla is a guy from Honduras in the process of obtaining an H1B to work on a hog farm in Laurinburg, North Carolina?
It was and still is, survival of the fittest. They had the resources to avoid fighting combat, lived and took gov office to write policy to keep themselves in power forever. They’re not going to simply hand over that power to anyone, ever.
@Jill_A_Tremblay@melissa_land@NikMarRita How can Mary judge if our prayer is in line with God's will for us? The Holy Spirit is in us and knows us. Mary's spirit isn't in us. She was a human. She can't "purify" prayer. Prayer doesn't need to be purified. God hears all our prayers and doesn't need anyone to convince Him.
@soupcanarchist@melissa_land We are at God's mercy, not Mary's mercy. We live God's will, not Mary's will. Mary was God's human child just like we are. Mary does not have divine power, only God does.
@NathenAmin IMO it’s disingenuous to call any royalty of that time pampered and spoiled. They were literal royalty and they all lived like that to a degree. Besides, H7 spent much of his youth sequestered in France being protected, waiting in the wings for his mother to push him forward. 🤷🏻♀️
Regardless of your personal feelings about Duke, What Coach K has done for the game of basketball is immeasurable....Love and respect to him and his family. The game is better because of you!
