Often the @DWP fails to see the person & their needs behind the application & applies a rigid, one size fits all approach meaning thousands are shut out. We need peoples welfare back in social security. For all this is Belfast, this is all too apparent for cases in England &Wales

It is clear the benefit system is in need of urgent reform but, I think that we also need to address the nature of work in UK of low pay, 0-hour contracts & casual work that, alongside a broken benefit system sees many people face financial hardship despite working.

Millions of women couldn’t plan retirement, thanks to the @DWP changing their pension age without notice. Comparing planning retirement to a burger is insensitive to these women. This has had a huge impact on their lives, leaving some women with nothing & relying on food banks.

Universal Credit has failed in its intention to simplify the benefit system & support claimants into work. Instead UC places stress on claimants to continually access a Journal online, & reduction in entitlement forces individuals into poverty adding further barriers to work.

Now that we’ve gone through the proposed UC Migration Regs - we can talk about some of our headline concerns:

1. Those on legacy (old) benefits will have to make a *new* claim for UC. They won’t be migrated by DWP.

2. Claimants will have to meet a new claim deadline.

The questions must be asked as to whether this tactic is to frustrate the claimants and process and lead to valid claims and appeals being withdrawn.

Time after time @NeilCouling @DWP @EstherMcVey1 give out the same line that they are listening and learning from claimants experiences. But no real change has been made to #UC since amendments in the 2017 /18 Budget despite continual and documented failings since.

@NeilCouling @GMWRAGtweets @DWP @NAOorguk @NeilCouling We don’t deny that changes has happened - but it is token gestures & not the change needed. DWP miss-advising claimants, claimants still in hardship, claimants being miss-advised to claim by JC+ & no method in place stop / rectify. We need real change not tokenism!

The welfare benefit appeal system is broken and unfit for purpose. A pointless MR process, & a stressful tribunal for claimants. This is only putting pressure on welfare benefit advisors, court system and ultimately, the claimants, who are often facing serious hardship.

Sadly this is endemic of the leadership at the @DWP who dismiss genuine, well founded concerns as “scaremongering” and push forward regardless of concerns. What is more worrying is reluctance to change once the predicted concerns become apparent. This is clear with #UC.
