@KrisAbdelmessih Thanks vm. I read it with a pen/paper to derive the equations :) can you explain how does this apply to VIX? It is a given formula in terms of option prices (linear combination weighted by 1/strike ^ 2). If the option prices are unchanged why would VIX change. It’s all formulaic?

@bennpeifert Thanks vm. The short unweighted vega is because you originally hedged assuming vol moves inversely to sqrt(T). If they move parallel you lose more on the hedge? If so what does “buy further in the curve” mean. If the term structure is steep options further out will be expensive?
