There was a patent dispute around this tech between Uniqlo and Asterix (another Osaka based tech company) and where Uniqlo had to settle this out of court, and acknowledge Asterix’s patents’ validity.
For a few months, this tech was pulled out of stores in Japan back in 2020-21

「育休で評価が下がるなんて、
当たり前ですよ。」

昼休み、
定食屋で女性の同僚が言った。

みんな一瞬フリーズした。

話題は、最近増えてきた
男性の育休取得で評価が下がる問題。

「戻ったら左遷させられたらしい」
「昇進も止まったって」

そんな話をしてる時だった。

彼女はご飯を口に運びながら続けた。

「女性はずっとそうやって扱われてました。別に最近始まった話じゃないです。」

誰も返す言葉がなかった。

彼女は淡々と続けた。

「育休から戻ったら、
キャリアはリセットされます。」

「それでも家庭を選んだのは自分だから。
仕方ないことってみんな思ってますよ。」

それを聞いてようやく分かった。

男性の育休で問題になったわけじゃない。

男性が経験して初めて、
問題として扱われ始めただけ。

彼女は最後に
ちょっとだけ笑って言った。

「なんで男性が育休を取り出したら、
急に問題扱いになるんですかね？
不思議です。」

誰も何も言えなかったし、
笑って誤魔化すしかなかった。

これは今まで、
ずっと女性が背負ってた問題。
今になって、それがようやく見えただけ。

問題なのは、
それが当たり前すぎて
文化として処理されてたこと。
