On Memorial Day, we pay tribute to the brave men and women in uniform who gave their lives for this country that we love. It is a debt we can never fully repay, but we must never stop trying. I’ll always be grateful to our fallen heroes and their families, whose sacrifice reminds us of what it means to live for something greater than ourselves.

Very warm and cordial meeting with the Prime Minister of Mozambique H.E Maria Benvinda Levy. Only the second woman to be Prime Minister of the country. Very insightful observations by Her Excellency focused on the Mozambican economy, the vulnerability to weather based events as a result of climate change, losses in GDP, the role of trade and the WTO in helping African economies to recover, grow, thrive and create jobs.

In Tokyo, Japan… An excellent meeting with H.E Prime Minister Ishiba to discuss present global trade challenges, how to support the resilience of the rules based Multilateral Trading System with @WTO at its core, and what should be the priorities for reform of the system and how to move forward on these priorities. Thank you Mr Prime Minister for inviting me to discuss these important matters at a critical juncture for the world’s trading system. @JPN_PMO Prime Minister Ishiba also cheered me up by sharing the Osaka Kansai Expo mascot known as “myaku-myaku”.

Today we released the WTOs Trade Forecast for 2025 and 2026. Based on the trade policies currently in effect, we
project that global merchandise trade volumes will decline by 0.2%
in 2025—nearly three percentage points below the level we would
have expected without recent trade policy shifts. However there are downside risks, a reinstatement of
"reciprocal" tariffs would shave 0.6 percentage points off this forecast, lowering the projected growth rate to –0.8% and a broader spread of policy uncertainty beyond US trading
relationships would reduce growth by another 0.7 percentage points—implying a total decline in global merchandise trade of 1.5% in 2025 if both risks materialize. Of great concern is China-US decoupling. Click on the link to read my statement at the Press Conference.
