I'm so sheltered by the people I surround myself with that I sometimes forget how different the world can be outside my little bubble. I’m surrounded by so much openness, curiosity and empathy that I forget there are still so many people whose worldview is shaped by prejudice
happen to align so neatly with patriarchal beauty ideals? Patriarchal beauty standards don't need a man standing in the room for them to shape what women aspire to look like. They become internalized and start to feel like personal preference.
I recently saw a tweet that said "If women were told that having four fingers was the beauty standard, some would cut one off and still insist they did it for themselves." (paraphrased). Obviously that's hyperbole, but why do so many of our "personal preferences"
It's genuinely disturbing that Law & Order SVU has managed to stay on air for decades without running out of stories about violence against women. The writers aren't struggling for ideas because reality keeps supplying them.
no shade it’s actually scary how many people think misogyny has to present itself as extreme hatred of women and violent rhetoric for them to consider it as such. casual misogyny is dangerous precisely because it often presents itself as normal, harmless, or “just a joke”
