The following diagram sums up main concepts and processes that our research is looking at.
Does it suggests you any link between the elements? Through qualitative methods we aim to better understand how these elements relate to each other.
#OlderAdults#AT#Identity
Our scoping review step back to map identity-related concerns in research about older adults' AT use and explored its psychosocial impact through reported patterns of AT use & emotional experiences
Check out some of the findings below! 👇
#ResearchInsights#AgingWellWithTech
Astell et al.’s (2020) review explored the role of identity (ID) in older adults’ decision making about AT adoption.
-ID is also referred to as self-image
-ID is explored as consistent with competence, independence and self-reliance.
-ID is relevant to understand AT decisions
"…the process of becoming a user of AT is closely related to self-image, in that the participants continuously balanced the positive aspects of AT use with its impact on their self-image". (pp. 191)

Larsen et al.'s (2019) meta-synthesis review (17 papers) identified a close relationship between older adults' self-image and their process of becoming AT users. Diagram below shows the phases they identified based on the themes emerged.
