@w_shoshana Greek speaking Jews in the times of the second temple translated that name into Greek: Deutero means double or second (like the English word Duet) and nomos is the Greek word for law.

Rambam wrote his book “Mishnah Torah” cuz he saw it as a summary of all the laws.

@w_shoshana “Devarim” is just the second word of the book. The Rabbis of the Talmud had names for the books of Torah that were more thematic. Devarim is a repeat of many stories/laws/ideas in the Torah, so the Rabbis called in Mishnah Torah, which means “Repetition of the Torah.”
