@ConorUCCLaw I was v relieved to at last see consideration being given to the negative impacts on child development and on safety and wellbeing of vulnerable children, from school closures and lockdowns, rather than the overly narrow focus on covid case numbers we get at each news bulletin
@RiochtConor2 How many PCR tests is Ireland doing weekly as percentage of population and what is the percentage positive results compared to other EU countries?
@IrishTimes DofEd act now - inform LC21 students that LC22 group will be bellcurved to even out the two groups' results - before the course acceptance deadline to reduce LC21 student numbers declining offers and reapplying next yr, confident of grade deflation @SimonHarrisTD@NormaFoleyTD1
@NormaFoleyTD1@LeoVaradkar@SimonHarrisTD Govt must act now before the CAO course acceptance deadline to inform LC21 group that next yrs LC22 results will be in someway bell curved to this yr results. Otherwise huge numbers of LC21 will wait and reapply next yr confident of grade deflation disadvantaging LC2022
@NormaFoleyTD1 Why did DofEd not bell curve this years LC to other yrs? Yes there would hav been a random sampling effect. Whereas now there is random sample effect anyway PLUS grade inflation too which will disadvantage LC2022 group. @LeoVaradkar@SimonHarrisTD
@PatKennyNT Will DofEd urgently outline how LC2022 students will be protected against overinflated LC2021 results so that LC2021 accept courses offered this year and not defer until next year. If no levelling off between years is signalled now, then in excess of 20,000 2021 group will defer
@SimonHarrisTD There could be Major issue next year if " regular" leaving cert only. People with very high grades from this year( due to choice of assessment)will sail into courses next year if they defer. It will not be level playing field this years results can not be compared to regular LC
@SimonHarrisTD Decision needs to be made now re next year's LC. Those students need to be given same accomodation as this year. If they are competing for college places with this years students who defer, that would be hugely unfair, this years results do not compare to regular LC results.
@SimonHarrisTD Thank you. My question now is how will they preserve places for this years sixth years as their points will be back to normal due to no predicted grades.. so many from this years LC 2021 will be deferring to next year to take advantage of this..yet another obstacle for LC 2022
@SimonHarrisTD I accompanied my eldest to college campus yesterday to start 2nd year and it was fantastic to see her excitement and feel the positive atmpsphere there. I'm very grateful for the collaborative commitment to on-site learning this year by Govt, DoH, DeptofFHEd, universities, HSE.
