When Stephanie Sneed and Raki McGregor sought a $400,000 contract from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office, they pitched it under the business name of former CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings. Jennings says he had no idea the pitch was submitted!
Former CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings tells @wsoctv that he has no affiliation with former CMS Board Chair Stephanie Sneed and Raki McGregor.
That's despite Sneed and McGregor seeking a contract with the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office under the name of Jennings' business, JCG704 (Jennings Consulting Group)
Jennings says he met Raki McGregor through a friend and McGregor contacted him and asked for support on a project he was working on to provide consulting services for MCSO. Jennings says he expressed interest in assisting because he knows Sheriff McFadden well. Jennings says he met with Raki and Sneed to discuss the proposal and he agreed to work with them if they were awarded a contract.
He says that meeting was the end of any formal discussions he had about this. He says he hasn't talked to Raki McGregor or Stephanie Sneed in months. He says he has never discussed the proposal with Sheriff McFadden and he did not even know McGregor and Sneed pitched it to the sheriff. He says he just learned through news stories.
He says Raki McGregor and Stephanie Sneed are not business partners with JCG704 and he is not working on any other projects with them. He also says he has no knowledge of any other business ventures between McGregor and Sneed.
Sheriff Garry McFadden released a statement today confirming the non-involvement of Jennings, despite the presentation name dropping him and the use of his company's name.
From Sheriff McFadden:
As discussion continues regarding the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office will refrain from commenting on the broader issue. However, I want to clarify our communications regarding JCG 704 LLC, the company identified in the slide presentation. MCSO has not discussed this subject matter at any time with Chief Jennings.
“Chief Jennings has not communicated with me in my capacity as Sheriff, or with my staff, regarding any proposal or contractual discussions related to this matter. Given our longstanding friendship and years of service together in law enforcement, I believe it is important to make this distinction clear,” Sheriff
McFadden said.
Boy, I loath re-posting you guys, CF. But since you like calling people names, I'm going to respond:
On your first charge, you are 100% correct:
I am MAGA through and through, although I am not sure what relevance that has to this discussion other than to throw some read meat to your donors in hopes they'll be thrown off the scent of the truth about how the Genx crisis unfolded.
But not a truth teller? There, you are dead-wrong.
I recall the days and nights and weeks that spread over months when the Genx crisis hit us, like it was yesterday.
7 days after we found out, we held the 90 minute meeting i've mentioned. The questions we (I) asked Chemours is how we found out a small morsel of the truth and from there, the Chemours lobbyist and lawyers went beast-mode.
Days after I sent my letter, Chemours lobbyists and lawyers snookered Cooper into the consent order you posted, even though we had been begging Cooper to simply suspend operations entirely until the company came forward with all the information about its decades-long discharges of the unregulated compounds into the Cape Fear River, and so they would know that he meant business.
What did he do? He 'negotiated' with them and entered the 'consent agreement' you posted.
And then what happened?
Well, in October, Chemours "spills" more contamination in the Cape Fear River, doesn't report it, and FINALLY in November - after the pressure we'd been applying all along - Cooper finally made a move to suspend.
I watched the saga play out in the regulatory process, the courtrooms, the press, and in the legislature. I had front row seats to every one and the bottom line is this:
when confronted with the choice to either a) work with local and state leaders to forge a solution and STOP discharges of harmful compounds or b) play politics with the Republican Legislature in a competitive senate district, Cooper chose option B.
Look, let's both be honest here, CF:
You want Jessica Bichler to win the Senate race because you support her socialist policies. You care not at all about the truth of the GenX crisis in my community, and so you've weighed in with this attack on me so as to deflect from her false ads; and
I want Senator Michael Lee to win the race for a million reasons, and near the top of that list is because of how hard he has fought for our water quality.
But to the broader audience, I will say that if you want to know the truth, and if it matters to you in deciding whether to cast your vote for a strong, effective and smart Senator who knows this issue vs. a newcomer who doesn't and is lying about it to get votes, then do your own research and read for yourselves the dozens of press reports beginning June 8, 2017 forward and then decide for yourself.

@wm_agee@RobertBurns82 I also love Charlotte. What over reach are you referring to?
I am saddened by the outbreak of murders.. actually horrified by it. Just last night a four year old child was shot while sleeping in his bed and a few days before a young lady was carjacked at UNCC.

David Sacks has a point that cuts through a lot of the noise this week.
He just told CBS News that Dario Amodei should "step aside" if he can't control what he's building
He makes a point that is hard to argue with on the surface.
If you are the CEO of a company and you genuinely believe your product could cause catastrophic damage within months, publishing an essay about it is not enough.
You are still shipping the product. You are still taking the company public at $2 trillion. You are still the one making the decision to continue.
Stop asking governments and regulators to solve a problem you created and continue to accelerate.
@L1569Uptown Enough! No young person should have to contend with this. Charlotte city council needs to seek the federal funds to get more law enforcement. Our DA needs to prosecute the criminals to the fullest extent and our sheriff needs to keep the criminals locked up.
Could you imagine hearing bullets being sprayed... and silence from the police?
That is not a movie. That is Charlotte.
That's Charlotte under
Democrat control. A lawless city that does not care about North Carolinians.
@nopearlzb4swyne is freaking amazing for calling it out. The NC rot goes deep and she is not playing nice about it!
